Question Before or After Mods

I am going to make Mods to my 05 F-150 Super Cab 5.4L. )specifically exhaust and a CAI. I know that I want the Gryphon as well.) Currently the only mods I have are levelers and 35x12.5x17 tires.

Does it make sense to get the gryphon first with canned tunes and then get new custom tunes when I make the mods, or...make the mods and then get the tuner with custom tunes...anyone?

It is personal preference...but if I were in your shoes, I would go with the tuner first. Especially rolling 35's! It makes a huge difference getting your shift points where they should be, let alone getting your speedo right again. I am waiting for my custom tunes right now, but I am running the canned 87 tow tune. It is amazing what even the canned tunes do. In all honesty, I don't feel much (if any) power loss from switching from my stock tires to the 34's I am running with the tuner. Good luck...and have fun!

I would get the gryphon then tell Bill what exhaust and CAI you'll be getting.

If you haven't done so already, do a search here and on f150online about the "Gotts Mod" instead of a commercial CAI. Yes, it's not as visually impressive but I believe the performance results are about the same and it does not require any "special" tuning changes. You'll save a bundle. And, you can't see it with the hood closed anyway.

If you're doing any kind of "cat back" exhaust mod, it will not effect your tunes either.

I have almost your same truck with those mods, and get the programmer first! it will show the biggest difference in performance. and I agree with the Gotts mod for your truck, its simple, easy, and really cheap compared to a commercial CAI. I got the Gibson exhaust, just a cat back, and it works fine, noticed a little difference in performance, and a good difference in sound . I am running canned tunes for hopefully not too long, but they are working fine if you decide to do the other mods before you get the gryphon. hope I helped

Thanks for the responses! The exhaust I am looking at is the gibson super truck, and I have read a bunch on the gotts mod. I know the general consensus is that it is comparable to a CAI.

Thanks again, I believe I will go with the tuner first and then the gotts mod with the gibson exhaust.
