I wanted to follow up on this issue to see if those of us that were having the problem have found a resolution. I know many of us running the 87 performance tune were experiencing this. My problem as of recent almost ALWAYS occurs once my tranny falls into OD....engine starts sputtering like I'm not getting enough fuel.
The main purpose of my post is to follow up with a question. I recently received an update. So far...so good. However, I noticed one major difference in the tune....the tranny now falls into OD around 40 mph, where originally, it fell into OD around 50 mph (with the original custom perf tune). Is it likely that was part of the change to eliminate the performance issue? I'm not necessarily dissapointed with that characteristic, as I seem to get better mpg's when I'm in OD more often. Also, I noticed when I changed back to my canned tow tune temporarily that my acceleration was WAY better in the mid to high range. Overall, the truck seemed more responsive. Seems like that has been lost with the performance tune. Any suggestions? I've read to clean the throttle body and MAF sensor? Problem is I have very little knowledge in that area; don't know how to do it. I'm a Scientist, not a mechanic ![]() Thanks in advance guys. |

, there are a few articles, some on here, some on other forums, going into good detail on how to clean your MAF and throttle body. I dont have any links to them, but a quick search will do the trick. Make sure to take them both out of the truck when you clean them, and be sure to use the right chemicals when you do it. Electrical contact cleaner for the MAF and they have throttle body cleaners at most car parts stores... at least to the best of my knowledge.

I think I will. My mechanic at my dealer is going to walk me through how to do it for FREE.....that way, I know how to do it in the future. I COULD read and learn, but time is always an issue for me. I was surprised they offered that to me; I'm going to take them up on it.
