Default Switch Issues

Installed my Pheonix yesterday. Didn't get to try it, had a party to go to. When I was putting the switch in, the little ring that limits the switch to 6 pos. came off. Not knowing exactly what it did, I turned the switch, hey there are like 10 or 11 positions. When I put the ring on, well 50% chance of putting it on right. So today when I tried it, NOTHING! I have stock, whisper, fuel sipper, 80 perf, 40 tow, and lope. No change in sound. So I took the dash apart rotated the ring 180* and guess what....IT WORKS So the moral of the story, make sure the ring does NOT come off. Weather is lousy so no road test yet. Be sure to give an update on performance soon.

Here's a little trick for the switches and the position detents.....

Turn the switch knob FULLY COUNTERCLOCKWISE. Put the detent washer in the hole corresponding to the number of positions you have burned onto the chip. Mount the switch and make sure that the washer doesn't come out.

You should be good to go.

Note:

Any switch position that does not have a program burned to it will do nothing. You're not going to gain anything by putting the switch on 7, 8,9, etc. If the switch is placed in a position where nothing is burned, it will not start.

I wouldn't recommend it. It just so happens that it's probably not the best thing for a PCM to have to put up with (could cause detrimental effects). No start tunes are not blank positions; they are modified stock files that just command no fuel.

Hopefully no detrimental effects because it started and ran for a while, as I was trying to figure out the problem. So, I guess the question is... why did it start?

You must have been in some position other than a blank one.

I had the switch rotated 180*. So all the selections were blank, pos 7-12. I started at pos 7, not pos 1 and turned all the way to 12, not pos 6, with no change in engine sound. Once I turned the truck off and rotated the switch, it worked. Pos 1 is stock, 2 is whisper, so when I started the truck and turned it to pos 2 it got quieter so I knew it was the switch positioning. But still it shouldn't have started?

New one on me, man. Unless....and this is a BIG unless.....there is something about the switch wiring inside the back of the switch body (since there are only 6 allocated wires when it's used with the TS chip) that connect pins 7-12 with #1.

I've never had the opportunity to try it nor the need.

Anyway, good thing you got it figured out.

Nope....

I just tore the black boot off of the back of the switch and there is nothing but the 7 wires hooked to a corresponding number.

I have once or twice used a switch that I had set to, say, three positions and only burned two onto it......I switched to the position with no program on it. Instantly died. No check engine light, no start. Why yours worked, I couldn't tell you.

If the switch is in position 7-12, it's the same as being in position 1 (or no switch connected at all).
