Default Chip Problems and Cold Weather

I have been running this chip since September with stock, hi idle, 40HP tow, 60HP tow, 80HP dd, and 100HP performance tunes. I like the shift points and the economy seems good but it definitely docent make as much power as my old DP tuner. When I tow my 5th wheel it seems to be a about 5% to 10% slower on the hills. What makes things worse is now that the weather has gotten cooler if it sits all night and is below 45 degrees my truck romps and shakes and wont hardly start. If I leave the block heater plugged in it starts fine. I'm at a loss and about to pull the chip out so i drive my truck without these issues.

I have been getting some help from Brad the last couple of days, he gave me a few suggestions and I tried a few cold starts with the chip removed and the truck started fine. I re-installed the chip on Friday and tried to start it Saturday morning, it was 30 degrees out and the truck started with no issues, I tried it again today at 35 degrees and it took right off. I have been driving it today and it seems to be running real good. I must of had a poor connection, for now I will keep driving it see how thing go, Thanks Brad for your help.

The cold weather issues could very easily be something other than the chip. A failing glow plug relay or even just a glowplug or two could contribute to romping cold start. If you have a test light you could check the glow plug relay with the help of someone else. You can also check the resistance of the glow plugs with a multimeter to check their condition. You could pull the chip, but it would be easier and you'll be better off checking the glow plugs and relay first. I think it's a good idea to check them anyways with some colder weather.

The things you are describing do not sound like chip-related issues. How old is your oil? Many have seen very positive results from switching to synthetic oil during the colder months. Also, the glow plug relay or individual glow plugs as was mentioned before.

I would start by checking the gp relay, then the glow plugs them selfs. If all is well there sounds like you have maybe some injectors headed south maybe..
