Default Getting ready to order a chip and have a few ?'s

I have a 97 dually with 161,000 on the clock, auto tranny with large cooler.6.0 Intercooler, 3" Downpipe,4" exhaust ( No cat), Napa do it yourself CAI, Autometer Gauges.
The truck is not a DD, Mainly weekend wheeling the kids around and pulling a 24' inclosed trailer and Racecar (6000 -6500 lbs.), and running hotrod parts around town.
I am having a hard Time deciding on the proper tunes for my truck.I was thinking 65 Tow, 80 DD, Stock, anti theft, lope idle(any down side to this?) and Smoke (if it will do anything with stock injectors)

Do these sound about right for my truck. Please advise if anything needs to be less ar more aggresive.

Thanks Jason

With stock injectors you are on the right track for the tunes. not sure how heavy you will tow but you may want to get something in the 40HP range for towing heavy. I really like the High Idle if you have an extra slot on the chip. you can choose the RPM for it too. I have not tried yet but was thinking of setting the max vehicle speed at like 1 or 2mph so its good for warming up the truck and if someone decides to try and steal it, they will max out at 2mph and hopefully abandon their theft attempt in short order... no start is another option but Murphys law says you are going to have the truck stolen the one time you don't switch it over to no start.. If you go with the FU package you can change these at your whim and it really is a great deal....
One reason for the no start is if you go with a different PCM code than stock you cannot use the PATS system, then again your model didn't have it in the first place

First off I'll say your at the right place to get tunes for your truck, Bill is the Man I'll just say that I'd probably put one of the performance tunes in place of the lope tune, when I'm not hooked to a trailer I run the 120race the truck really drives nice in that tune...JMHO...

Im just worried about killing the trans.
and as for tow weight it would never be over 8000 lbs

I hear you about the trans mine has 184k & I'm keeping my fingers crossed. After thinking about it give some thought to the high idle tune, I used it quite a bit in the summer to spin the A/C. BTW I pulled a 9-10k horse trailer 3800 miles this summer on the 80dd no probs temps stayed great. Whatever you decide I'd be willing to bet you'll be happy with Bill's tunes

Jason,

For a 97 with stock injectors, I would shy away from the smoke show only because the 80P will give you about all the stock injectors are capable of. There isn't much sense in paying $25 for a tune that won't be any different than the 80P. The lope idle is neat if you're into that thing, but I'm afraid the novelty of it will wear off quickly, especially with an automatic transmission. Holding the brakes against a surging engine isn't much fun for long.

With a 3" downpipe, there is very little worry of excessive EGT with stock injectors as long as you keep the engine in a decent RPM range while towing. Lugging will create a lot of smoke and high EGT.

So drop the smoke and add 80p or maybe high idle becouse I have a race car and have no intention of ever hotrodding this heavy beast. And the lope is just a novelty for sure but there again we are dragracers so its just for goofing off.
That settles it: high Idle (1000-1200 ?????), 65 Tow, 80 DD, Stock, anti theft and lope idle

That is if it all looks ok to you cleatus12r

Thanks Jason

All I can do is offer suggestions and try to save you some $$$ in the process.

The order form won't allow you to put the high idle in position #1 but if you just tell us that's where you want it in one of the "fill in" boxes, we can do it.
