Default Evo Upgrade Help

I want to send in my Evo. But I need alittle help!

I dont know what type of custom tunes would be best for me. So here's what I do with my truck. Maybe you guys can help!

I have a 2008 F-150 FX4 with the 5.4L V8 with 3.73LS

Most of the time I just do everyday driving. It's mostly non-stop highway driving from work to home. Only 1 red light the whole way...

And on the weekends I tow a 30 Foot Outback RV thats right at 6660 pounds dry. So around 7500 fully loaded.

When I pull the RV I run 89 with some octane booster. The truck does great! But I need more power on the long hills.

On the motor the only mods I have are a K&N Air Changer Kit and a PowerAid Throttle Body Spacer.

I would like to keep using 89 when towing but get the added power and Torque I need. I would also like to use 89 for everyday driving and get more passing power.

What should I request when turning in my EVO to you guys?

Well I would suggest getting a tow tune for the weight of the trailer, you are pulling. And if you are wanting to run 89 octane then I would suggest 89 tow and 89 performance. And just let bill know on the form what you want out of each tune. i.e. your driving conditions and if you rather have more power or more mpg or both. Then if you only want 2 tunes I would just leave the 93 perf. incase you ever want to try it out. But you may would want to keep the tranny only tune

First thing I'd do is ditch the TB spacer. Those things supposedly helped carburated vehicles, but I've never read anything that says they help a fuel injected vehicle.

I'd recommend two tunes, optimized for the kind of driving you do. Pretty much what JWBFX4 recommended. And, I'd keep the 93 canned tune too. Make sure Bill knows your driving is mostly highway.

Im getting about 6 more horsepower out of the TB Spacer. And only paid $25 shipped for it.

And its a to get off so I'll just leave it on there since it's not hurting anything.

So I should just leave the trany mode and do a 89 tow cust and a 89 perm?

I think those tunes sound fine. You can always add another custom tune later if you see the need for it. Might as well keep your money in your pocket for now!

Sure, that works fine. I would have kept the 93 canned tune and put the 89 Perf on the Level 1 position (kind of what I did), but yours is a perfectly valid approach.

I'm curious though, and don't read it as a "put down", or challenge or whatever seems bad. How do you know the TB spacer is giving you a 6 HP boost? Did you do a before/after dyno test? I'm only asking because you're the FIRST person who's made this claim that I've heard from. I'm quite willing to be persuaded that those things work, but I need a bit of evidence.

As for leaving it on, it probably doesn't hurt anything. The only "con" I've read about is increased intake noise.

Well thats what the company said I would gain from it.

And with the K&N Air Changer Kit on it you cant hear anymore noise cause that thing is loud enough by itself.

Ditch the tb spacer and hang it on your wall!
Takes 5 minutes and not that bad of a job.
I once believed everything I read.
Just another spot for a vaccuum leak.
There only purpose on a efi vehicle is for nos or meth inj.

Just got an EVO and will run it for a while. I'm told I'll see 1 or 2 mpg better out of my truck by using it. Will I be able to see anything more less or the same out of it if it is upgraded to a gryphon.

I liked the "feel" of my truck better when I converted my Edge to a Gryphon and got custom tunes. And, I'm certain I gained about 0.5 mpg in economy too.

I don't think the difference between "canned" and custom tunes is as big as the difference between "canned" and stock. However, there was enough of a difference that I'm glad I did the conversion. When mine was converted, PHP was charging $50.00 per tune. We immediately took a 2400 mile trip towing our trailer. I calculated that I saved about $45 in gas on that trip, so the tune was almost paid for.
