Painting the Gryphon pod
Hey guys just wondering if anyone has changed the color of the pod for the Gryphon? My interior is a grey color and the pod is black. Is there any way to just paint it? I'm assuming there's more to it than just taking a spray can to the thing.
Anyone done this? :cool_beans: |
I'd be VERY careful! I think you should probably open the case and remove all the contents to do it. But, this MAY void your warranty. I know I would not attempt to "mask off" the buttons and screen to try to paint it with the contents installed though.
Possibly Bill or Corey will give you some advice. - Jack |

I suppose you have an earlier model Gryphon? The pod can be painted easily with any spray paint suitable for plastics. All you need to do IS "take a spray can to the thing"! Matching the color though means you're going to have to follow the advice Lars gave you. - Jack |
Sorry the confusion guys, I re-read my post and it does sound a bit confusing.
Had I known I could order a grey Pod I would've done that...no biggie though. I will go to the auto parts store and find me some grey and go to town on the pod! Thanks for the info! |
Edgar, I think you have an older vehicle (pre 2004?). If so, the pods were always black and I don't think you CAN get a gray one.

Yeah 2003..

Try Kyrlon Fusion paint. It is a plastic paint.

I gues another question I would have is...I don't have to prep the pod for painting? For some reason I thought I had to sand it down or something.

Mild soap and a good rinse.

They have come along ways in plastic paint. Lars |
I had one of the "old" style pods when I first got my Edge (that is now one of the first that Bill converted to a Gryphon). I tried painting it, without any serious preparation other than a soap and water wash (or maybe it was 409?). Anyway, I used DupliColor spray and the results were perfect. It also seems very durable.
I was simply never satisfied with the color. When I found out there were new pods available for my truck that MATCHED the dash, I immediately bought one from Corey! Since I don't think you can get a gray one for your model year, I'd really look into having a rattle can filled with custom matched color. I think you'll be much happier with the results and I bet there are paint shops that will do it for not too much money. - Jack |

Trouble is, this is an interior color. I wonder if a call to them would yield anything? They MUST have had requests for interior paint matching in the past. Be a pain to have to send them part of your dashboard. - Jack |
