Limp home mode

Quick question.....I installed my custom tune in my programmer the other day and went to load it up in the truck. The tune installs fine and the truck runs fine but I have the limp home mode light on in my dash now....anyone have any clues?

I'm a bit confused - do you mean the check engine light is on? If you were in limp home mode, you would not be enjoying the way the truck runs.

If you go into the diagnostic menu, what code(s) is/are showing? And, just so we'll know, what year and engine displacement is your truck? (I see it's an f150).

noo its not the check engine light its the little wrench light i believe its the limp home mode light

i have a 2006 f150 4.6.... truck runs fine just that the little light is on.

Do the diagnostics menu like Jack mentioned.

Put it back to stock see if it disappears?

Looking at your avatar picture you have a 04-08 f150.

i was reading the manual and it said it would also show in your display that your truck is in "limp home mode" but it doesn't

I will go put it back to stock during lunch today

the pic in my avatar is my 2001 f150 king ranch :) my once baby... now older kid that only gets turned on once a week and has only moved about 20 feet in the past year to cut the grass around it and wash bird poo off of it...in my eyes it looks like the truck in your avatar lol (wishful thinking) but it only has 9inches of lift and 38inch tires :(

At lunch before you put it back to stock see what codes are in the diagnostics. Then put it back to stock to see if it still happens.

1. Check and clean battery terminals if needed. Check cable ends.

2. May be starting to have issues with throttle body?

Picture in your avatar is small on the blackberry so I was just guessing?

okay went out to the truck to check the diagnostics and came up with this code. I cleared the codes turned on the truck again and the same code came back. "Throttle petal position sensor / Switch f Circuit high"

What was the exact code?
P2135?
P2106?

If its the TPS its a common thing for them to go out. The good side is you still have drivability for now. But post to still see what happens in stock to confirm/narrow down trouble shooting.

code is P2133...i went back to stock and the light went away. I drove around for about 20 min on the stock setting and the light never came on. I would like to take the time to thank PHP...my truck feels like I have a 1000lb anchor w/o the gryphon!!anyhow i couldn't take that pain very long and put my custom tune back on and the light came back on again. I am going to install one of the canned tunes to see if i still get the light.

ohh also thanks Corey for updating my login!!

It's very unusual. I will say that 4.6L trucks are a lot more sensitive to programming and there are a few tweaks we can make that should fix the light.

I put an update on the server. Download it and let me know if the problem is resolved.

Take care.

woohoo thanks Bill!! I will try it this afternoon...i tried the canned tune and it went away...i will let you know if the new tune removed the light as well.

Recalibrating the gas pedal and throttle body:
1- Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine(dashboard lights come on and chime sounds).
2- After the chime stops, smoothly depress the gas pedal to the floor while counting 1001-1002-1003.
3- Release the gas pedal using the same procedure in 2.
4- Wait 6 seconds, and turn the ignition to OFF.
5- Wait 6 sec., and repeat steps 1-4 two more times.

Could maybe give this a whack too if it keeps happening...

That's interesting, Grabber! I wonder though, to fix the problem dsilva584 is having, wouldn't the PCM have to be holding one of the Gryphon tunes? (I actually suspect Bill will get it ironed out though.)

These "reset"/"recalibrate"/"disable"/"enable" procedures are all a hoot, aren't they?

Thanks for adding that procedure. I don't think it may necessarily apply to the current issues, but it's good to know... especially for those folks who have installed aftermarket throttle bodies.

Take care.
