ECM: not located!!!

where did it go!?!?!? lol

Greetings everyone... just got my gryphon in the mail, went to hook it up and where it should give me a Hex code it tells me that the ECM could not be located... i checked the connection with the OBD port and unhooked everything waited my 5 seconds, tried again and still the same thing. I'm sure i'm doing something wrong but I just cannot figure it out. I've read the book several times and while my comprehension level isn't the best, i feel like it's fairly simple.

hook gryphon to cable
turn key on
plug in to obdII port

acknowledge the caution/warning (no more of those)
and it does not find the ECM, or give me a hex code... what am i missing??

Are you getting instructions on the screen?

If I remember correctly, after I plugged mine in, it told me to turn the key off and then told me to turn it back on. I have plugged and unplugged mine several times and I think I've gotten that message. When I do I just unplug OBDII plug and plug it back in. That seems to work. Also, I've turned the switch off and back on.

I have gotten that message when I plug it in without having the key on. I found mine works best if I have the truck on (not started) and then plug it in.

Hope this helps. Once you get it going you will never want to run stock again... except when you are teaching a younger person to drive... :giggle:

xlt, I turn the key on to the run position (radio plays, stuff works, etc) if thats what you mean?

What Circuit was trying to tell you, 4x4billy, is that you MUST have the ignition key in the ON position (radio plays, stuff works, etc - but engine off) BEFORE you plug the Gryphon in. Is that the way things were when you connected it?

What he said. :cheesy smile:

...and with that I will leave it in Jack's capable hands. :thumbs up yellow:

Jack

yes, ignition was on before i plugged it in to the obdII each time

Jackpine Wed, August 12th, 2009 10:51 PM

Ok, sigh - I'm drawing a total blank. I've been through my "file" of "fixes" and nothing looks like this. I'll try to get Bill's attention.

K, thanks... i've tried reading through the forum and i cant really find the same problem.

Power Hungry Wed, August 12th, 2009 11:45 PM

Okay.... here's a quick question or two.

Quickly though, when you have a second, please fill in your user information in the forum Control Panel so we know who we're dealing with. Makes things much easier from a support standpoint.

First question - What year truck is this?

Seconds question - Does the OBDII connector have 1 wire coming out that splits into two, or does it just have 1 wire on the left side and a 4-pin connector on the right?

I'll be around in the gameroom lobby for a bit to answer quick questions.

Thanks.

What year is your truck?

The one thing I thought of why this error is popping up is that your hex code is not supported by the firmware in the gryphon.
By this I mean the gryphon has a a hex/calibration table loaded into it's memory and if your truck's hex doesn't match one of them in the table then your SOL.
The only other thing I can suggest doing is running an update on the firmware on Pegasus. But that's only if you have canned tunes. DON'T do the update if customs are involved!
Bill is your only hope.
Nothing more I can do.

I'm still trying to get up to speed. I expected the gryphon to come with the custom tunes that were ordered. But after some reading and second guessing... i have to have my Hex code to send to the php guys and they will create the files that i can download to my pc.

or???

2006... typo:notallthere:

and as far as the cable... i have no clue?

88Racing Thu, August 13th, 2009 12:00 AM

So you have what we call "canned" tunes.
Wouldn't hurt to try and update the gryphon.
But it also might be a wrong cable?

awesome, bedtime... thanks man!:howdy:

Power Hungry Thu, August 13th, 2009 12:38 AM

No Lobby? Dang. Would have accomplished more with immediate Q&A.

Anyway, cable sounds correct. We'll have to get Pegasus installed and check the version information in the unit. Something is up and I'm not sure what it exactly is.

I'll have to give a shout tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help, guys. :2thumbs:

4x4billy Thu, August 13th, 2009 05:29 PM

firmware was up to date --- V 3.02.0369

calibration wasnt, installed that one --- V 1.02.0613

let it update per the lil pop up window.

You may want to try there?
All depends if Bill is there or off line.

4x4billy Fri, August 14th, 2009 08:18 PM

maybe i'm blind... but i dont see that exact title anywhere for a name??? is it the "emergency" spot?

man i feel lame lol

Jackpine Fri, August 14th, 2009 09:07 PM

The "lobby" is in the "Gameroom" - a new place to waste time in this forum. But, if Bill is willing to show up there at an appointed time, it would be a golden opportunity.

Look up in the bar near the top of this window. Gameroom is to the right of "Calendar" and left of "Check New Posts". It's a "chat room".
