Show us your trailer(s)
I will start off this thread with pics of the trailer I bought at a local auction for hauling my Bobcat.... subsequently took it on a 2500 mile road trip to Reno, Nevada to get a backhoe attachment for my Skid Steer.
http://dygytalworld.ehost-services13...&pictureid=455 http://dygytalworld.ehost-services13...&pictureid=456 I made the trip in 100HP setting with the exception of a couple of hills on the way back that I had to switch to 60HP due to the EGT temps. was 75-80mph the whole trip except construction zones. truck drove like the trailer was not even there:D |
Here's mine. It's a 32' Keystone Cougar family camper. With the bike rack and the hitch in the front, it's about 37' total length. Queen bed in front, 4 bunk beds in the back used for three kids, and a toy shelf. Weighs about 9600 lbs loaded. We take it out once or twice a month in the summer, and once every month or two the rest of the year.
I have not towed it since I switched to PHP, but I used to tow with another chip's 40Tow setting, and still had to watch EGT. I look forward to my first tow with the PHP chip in a couple of weeks. http://dalbec.net/save/trailer.jpg |

I like your Deuce and a half, I keep getting tempted to buy one but other things seem to pop up for me to spend my money on:doh:
Got the spring perches to do the spring over on my trailer today also got a great deal on a Warn 8274 winch for $200 today so will probably mount that on the trailer too. Need to find a old working snow plow pump. I want to add a power up and down to the trailer tilt assembly. Have a remote control setup to run both the winch and pump setup if i can find one |

Ha ha, our horse wouldnt even know what to do in a trailer like that. |

I got the spring over done and the trailer jack remounted so its closer to the tongue...

Here is what I usually tow. It is a 8 x 19' Ice Castle fish house that I use for ice fishing and as a hunting shack up here in MN. This picture is of the Fish House and my truck on Lake Mille Lacs. In this photo, the wheels are cranked up to lower the floor down to the ice.
http://www.ewertgroup.com/Truck_Whee...mille_lacs.JPG Here is what the inside looks like: http://www.ewertgroup.com/wheelhouse_front_inside.jpg http://www.ewertgroup.com/Fishhouse_rear_inside.JPG It weighs in at 3700 lbs before I put all my "must have" fishing or hunting equipment inside. :D |

I dig the "green hornet".

That's a pretty neat setup, Glock!
I'd be VERY nervous about driving out on ice though. Does anyone ever fall through? :yikes2: - Jack |

How do you go by explaining that to the insurance company. :giggle: Well ya know I was out for a little drive and everything was all white. I was just following some tracks and then all of a sudden the road just went out from under me. I was like dang its getting a little cold now. :hehe:
|
Chuck,
You don't explain it to the insurance adjuster because they use the "Act of God" clause and weasel their way out of it! Those vehicles are also probably getting fined by the state and the EPA to the tune of $2500-$7000 a day for polluting the water plus the recovery fee! I used to use an old honda 250 three wheeler to pull my stuff out on the ice. Had a nice portable two man "clam". Its a good time going ice fishing. But my hands couldn't take it anymore, too cold some days. Seen plenty of vehicles go through over the years. The worse thing you can do is floor it. Just gradually increase the throttle and more than likely you will make it not unless you get into a "big" thin spot. My $0.02 Lars |
Holy smokes!
"I know I parked the truck around here somewhere ..." :hehe: |
Quote:
I only drive pull that out on the ice when there is at least 14" of ice. I have seen a few guys go through with thier trucks and cars on less ice. You have to remember that no ice is ever completely safe. My insurance would cover me if I dropped my precious F150 in the drink, but I don't want to have to go through that! |
Ye Gods! Those were great pictures, One Tom! I don't think there's any way I'd trust the ice to hold my truck - ever! Dang, that looks like cold work getting those things out of the drink. Not a job I'd want, no matter how bad the economy.
- Jack |
I think some of the recovery fees start at about $1000 and go up from there!
But Jack's right! Darn cold job especially for the divers eventhough they have their dry suits on. IMO Lars |
I decided that this trailer is gonna be a bit on the small side for hauling my bobcat with the backhoe attached..
http://dygytalworld.ehost-services13...&pictureid=512 So today I got a new trailer at auction.. will pick it up tmw. Had a scary experience with the trailer above when i tried hauling a couple pallets of landscape bricks... the pallet broke and dumped the bricks sending the truck and trailer into a fishtail as i tried to stop the truck:eek:... So I learned from my mistake and do not want to repeat that experience esp as I had my kids in the truck with me... so this is gonna be the replacement http://dygytalworld.ehost-services13...&pictureid=509 http://dygytalworld.ehost-services13...&pictureid=510 I will probably cut down that loader bucket support frame and also mount 8274 warn winch on this truck with and put a battery on the trailer// |
DJ,
I was thinking that the single axle trailer was a little under-kill for a skid steer. You'll have a lot better luck with the triple. |

Here's some of the load. Also got a 18' car hauler and and a 12' enclosed trailer for my bike.

Trailer Mods
Worked on trailer yesterday and today and got the modifications done. redid the plug and wire harness. cut of loader support frame and welded up a mount for the winch along with a few extra tie down points. also added the battery, changed to an Atwood 25K ball hitch and made a lock assembly for the hitch. just need to get the receiver and ball for the truck now. then need to check and service axles and brakes

Nice!
That looks a lot better! If it was a gooseneck I'd be jealous. :) |

First time using the Warn 8274. I love how fast the no load speed is... I will probably add a wireless winch control to it as well |

In CO and many other states pulling triples by semi's is allowed but watching those triples wander all over the place in cross winds sure makes me glad I am not driving that truck |

I know it is with a fifth wheel. I have brakes on the trailer and the boat. I only pull it to a couple local lakes. The furest being about 40 miles. If we go to further lakes, I'm only pulling camper. Handles better than you would think. ALOT is in the actual setup of hitches. I have seen many 1ton trucks that can't go over 50 mph because the boat gets to whippin. |

We tow a 2008 Jayco Jayflight 26bh. Last season, I towed it with a 2002 F-150 with the 5.4 (2v), and 3.31. Prior to towing, I added a K&N cold air intake, Flowmaster cat-back exhaust, and another company's programmer~sorry, I didn't know any better:sadface: The truck pulled the trailer ok, but I wasn't happy.
I've since upgraded to a 2010 F-150 with the 5.4(3v) 3.55ls and tow package. I am looking forward to adding a Gryphon to my new truck :2thumbs: once they are ready. |
I changed out the POS Pintle hitch to a 2 5/16 ball hitch and removed the extra channel that was mounted on the ramps and dovetail.. which removed about 300lbs of metal from the rear of the trailer... It tows great now.... I have developed a strong dislike for pintle trailers on light duty vehicles......
Also added a wireless remote control setup for the winch... http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j6...AwMTIuanBn.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j6...AwMTMuanBn.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j6...AwMTQuanBn.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j6...AwMTAuanBn.jpg:thumbs up yellow: |

I don't have many pics of my fords in this pc. The dodge ram on the trailer had a blown Cummins @ 77k miles it dropped a valve, still fighting with Dodge.
The GMC may get a 7.3 powerstroke. |

What do you have for brakes on this trailer?? I have 2 32' goosenecks flat beds, and a 36' aluminum stock trailer, with 10k HD dexter axels and I put electric over Kodiak hydralic disc brakes on them what a huge difference you don't even need truck brakes and they work just as well in reverse. You ever back down a gravel drive way with 10 tons of hay on??
It cost $550 (www.kodiaktrailer.com) per axel, $350 (Redneck trailers) for the elec/hydo unit, and like $75 (NAPA)for brake lines, hoses and fitings. They make an 11" and a 13" style rotor, also they use a 1 ton early 90's GM caliper so you can buy the brakes at any auto parts store. I run the 11" rotors on the trailer with the 16" rims and the 13" rotors on the with 19.5" rims. Thats another thing I bought a bunch on 8 lug 19.5" GM P-chassie rims, had a machine shop cut the pilot hole to 4.75" and I use 225/75/19.5 14 ply tires and they where like iron. I buy them wholesale for $135 each. I must have 150,000 miles on my 19.5" trailer tires and they still have half tread, I think you can get 3-4 time more life out of the 19.5 then the 10 ply 235/85/16, also they are rated for 3600# dual as opposed to 2778# on the 16's. As soon as I come up with more 19.5" rims I will out fit my other trailers with this set up, the also work well on pre '97 ford dullies. happy hay hauling, Jay |
yea i had Elec/hydro put on when i bought the trailer... after some hair raising experiences with the 5er RV, i decided to spend the extra money... its definitely a nice thing to have especially since i like the trailer to do most of the braking anyway...
yea the heavier tires would be nice.... i need to upsize and when i do, i might order something with 19.5's.... |
if you call local truck junk yards you should be able to buy those 19.5 rims for $20 to $50

Here is a couple pics of 2 recent heavy towing trips from Denver to my home, all done in 40HP tow tune with no issues with EGT's or tranny temps, shifts etc
first 2 are about 16K lb trailer weight and the last one is 21K lb trailer weight. 6 pallets of Retaining wall block http://forum.gopowerhungry.com/membe...-trailer-1.jpg http://forum.gopowerhungry.com/membe...-trailer-2.jpg 4 pallets of flagstone, a diesel generator and 3 wheelchair lifts... and a pool table base... http://forum.gopowerhungry.com/membe...lb-trailer.jpg |
Dang, thats quite a load. How far did you have to pull it? Do you have any kind of Weight Distributing Hitch?
|
North side of Denver to South side of Colorado Springs about 80-90 miles.. 21K was pulled at night in the snow with the oppisite side of the Fwy shut down for the Obama's Motorcade. about 20 miles of the frw was on freshly packed snow...

It handles the trailer pretty well. Doesn't weigh as much as you might think. The trailer is 5,800# empty and I probably tow it most of the time around 7,000#. The truck doesn't have any problems pullin the trailer but I am definitely maxing the GV of the truck because of the pin weight. Although it only takes about 15-20 lbs in the air helpers to level the truck. We usually take it on 4-6 trips per year, most of those are within 3 hours away. This years trip to Maine was about 15 hours = went through a lot of gas!
|
Awesome! haha sounds like a lot of fun! and I am sure it would not ride well pulling the trailer without those air springs! ill keep that in mind if i ever get a nice trailer like that... ya know like 20 years from now! :hehe: im a little young to get something that nice, but my dad says the same thing haha

http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto..._8331986_n.jpg This is my buddies trailer I used to haul quite a bit until he moved down to Arizona.
