State inspection question
 

Here in Massachsetts we have to have our vehicles inspected every year. Part of the inspection is to the connect a computer to the OBD port for information. I returned the truck to stock and removed the the Gryphon from the vehicle I did not want to take any chances. My truck failed the emissions test! They told me to drive around for 50 miles and come back, I was wondering if anybody has left there Gryphon installed for this test if so did it pass?

Should have just removed the gryphon from the vehicle and left all programming alone and you would have passed.
Let me guess you switched the truck back to stock the day of or a day before?
What the test station saw was a p1000 dtc which is an automatic failure.
A p1000 is a code that tells people that are looking at the pcm that it has recently been reflashed. They were right in telling you to drive your truck and come back.
I wouldn't switch it anymore until you drive it awhile and get it retested.

Bingo! Like lars said I wouldn't reprogram yet to after you drive a while and get it rechecked. But in the future I would just take gryphon out and leave it programmed however it is.

I don't want to hijack the thread but my inspection is due here in Texas. We have emissions testing here. Are you guys saying that I should leave the program alone and leave it programmed on 3 and it should still pass?

Yes, just take the actual programmer itself out and the cable. If you change levels a p1000 code will be throwed and they will fail the inspection for that. It is just a drive cycle code that gets thrown anytime the computer is reflashed.

Just a note:
Another good thing to check before taking your vehicles in for inspection is the cigarette lighter fuse. In most vehicles the cigarette lighter and the obdII share the same power source.
The fuse being blown can result in a failure also and they will send you on your way to get it fixed.
Now that I thought about it some more, check it before and after the inspection!

ok this is kinda along that line but different lol, thankfully we do not need yearly inspections here, but will not having the lighter fuse installed at all effect the programmer at all ? on my 97 i have two ports one is the lighter on the right and the other beside on the left is a secondary power supply which has power all the time and i use , same damn thing in my mind, but the lighter doesn't recieve power due to i have not put in the large square 3 prong 25 relay looking fuse, do i have to in order to utilize my programmer fulltime?

I'm pretty sure that on most vehicles out there that the power supply is shared between the obdII port and the cigarette lighter port.
The secondary power ports are sometimes ran off a different circut due to possible higher draws incase the lighter is ever used as intended and overloads the circut.
Might want to make sure all your fuses are intack.

Alls I know is that in times past when hooking up and unhooking scan tools is that sometimes the fuses are already week and using the scan tool some how gets them to pop.

wish i read this one yesterday :doh: lol i could have picked up the relayfuse while i was in the city, its a 4 hr drive to the place i can get any sort of car parts oh well, i think my tuner will be here in a couple days so i have till then to find someone else with a 97 or 98 in the community and borrow his till i have time on our trip next monday to the bigger city for xmas

yeah i just looked it only has a 10 amp fuse in it but it isn't blown, owners manual say it needs a 25 amp fuse for it, don't think i have ever seen a 25, lots of 20's and 30's though
