Soon to order

Hello. I'm from F150online. After reading much positive reviews on the PHP Gryphon custom tune I have decided I want one. Before I place an order I have a few questions.

I'm getting a wheel and tire package soon, if I order the custom tune now, will I be able to re-adjust for the larger diameter size later on? ( I think I know the answer is yes by what I read in the Gryphon install PDF file, I've looked it over so much I already know how to work it  )

Other questions I have are about the tuning. In the order forum i'm a bit confused about what tunes to order. I know I want an economy tune, and a performance tune. Will running 87 octane still have a good affect on the performance? Or should I get all tunes for 89 octane?

Hope I can get these questions answered so I can order by the end of the week. Thanks!

Hey Darren! I'm from F150online, too. I just ordered my Gryphon on Monday and can't wait to get it!

If I understood Corey correctly when I talked to her on the phone, the 87 economy tune and 87 performance tune are basically the same. (Bill or Corey- correct me if I'm wrong) I don't know about the 89 octane.

I ordered two customs with mine; 87 performance and 93 performance. I was going to get the 87 economy and that's when Corey said that the 87 performance and economy are the same. They could have charged me for three customs and just let me go on thinking I was doing something, but she told me I only need the two. If in the future I ever get something to tow, then I'll order a towing tune; for now it's just drag racing!

I'm not sure about the octane tunes because I just ordered a 93 octane performance tune. You are correct about the tire size adjustment. There is a screen on your gryphon where you choose your tire size after you do a little bit of math. It's not a big deal though because I just recently upgraded to some larger tires.

JWBFX4 Thu, March 5th, 2009 01:07 AM

yes you can readjust for the larger wheel, but the only bad thing would be, since it isn't in your custom tunes you would have to go in and reset it each time you change levels. But that doesnt take but a minute to do.

DarrenWS6 Thu, March 5th, 2009 01:28 AM

Thanks for the info guys. So 87 economy and performance are the same. Ok i'll remember that. I generally just want an economy tune, and performance tune. What would you guys suggest to me? I would prefer not to run 93.

Ok cool. I would be able to contact PHP about the update of larger wheels and tires and they would be able to send me an update for the Gryphon right? How much would that cost to have done too if anyone knows how much add-ons are.

I think I will buy the Gryphon before the wheels & tires so I can enjoy the performance and get some possible better economy right now.

Just a little advice when you get your Gryphon in, go ahead and put in some premium fuel and go to level 3. You won't even want to try the other canned tunes. I ordered 1 custom tune, 87 performance tune, and it is going to be replacing the level 1 canned tune. Reading everyones opinions and inputs over on f150online I was a little skeptical that this programmer could make that much of a difference. After getting the Gryphon though I am a true believer. I have a smile on my face every time I press the skinny pedal :happy-dancing: The best part is even though I get on it more now, my mileage has still went up by 2.1 mpg. If I could ease up a little it would go up even more. I can't wait to get the custom tune to be able to use 87 octane instead of 93 though.

I would assume that you could do that where it would store your tire diameter setting, but you might want to ask them personally.

As far as the tunes go, I just got a custom 87 performance tune and kept the canned tow tune and the 91 octane tune. And if you dont want to run the higher octane I would just go with the 87, because from what I have read most poeple like the custom 87 perfm. just as much as the 91 canned tune. :2thumbs:

Sounds good. Thanks for the information guys. I'll give them a call and see if I can get through today. If it all works out hopefully i'll order tomorrow.

So pretty much I just want an economy and performance tune. Since hearing 87 performance and economy are the same, I guess the 87 economy, and a 89 or 93 performance tune. Hopefully I can get some good clarification about all of this over the phone.

Darren,

I apologize if you have tried to reach us today and we were not available. Corey has been out sick most of the week and had a particularly bad migraine the yesterday and today. This has made it extremely difficult to stay on top of phone calls.

If you have any questions that need to be answered immediately, please PM me your number and I will get in touch with you tomorrow.

Thanks.

Thank you. No problem, I rang on your phone most of the day today but I finally got ahold of you this evening around 5 ( guy questioning about octane tunes and such ). I'm going to place my order tomorrow. Hopw Corey feels better, its that season. I had a heck of a flu last week, 5 days without working sorta hurt my pay there.

Noticed the overhead post about Monday - Wednsday being closed. If I order tomorrow can I still expect to receive my Gryphon unit to be shipped tomorrow?

We received an order from Edge Wednesday afternoon -- assorted parts for 30 programmers -- and 25 of them had already been sold! We need to get those 25 customers' Gryphons out first since they've been waiting (some since last weekend). If I can get another one programmed and ready to go, I'll give that to our UPS driver tomorrow! :thumbs up yellow:

Alright sounds like a good plan. I guess I should get on the order forum right now and place my order

Is someone talking about me? My ears are burning... :P

DarrenWS6 Sat, March 7th, 2009 02:58 AM

Ordered yesterday morning ( March 6th ) and went with the 87 performance tune as level 1, and the other two levels canned for now. Expected arrival is the 10th. Thank you very much Bill and Corey for getting it shipped out for me so quickly today. It will be a long weekend now lol, hopefully some fishing can take my mind off of the wait.

DarrenWS6 Tue, March 10th, 2009 10:00 AM

Well according to the UPS tracking my Gryphon is only 56 miles south of me so its made it all the way to PA! Todays my lucky day :D

bjp207 Tue, March 10th, 2009 10:22 AM

you will enjoy it, I sure have been, only on level 1 too :woot:

EddiesF150 Sat, March 14th, 2009 02:12 AM

I got mine day before yesterday! I am impressed!!! The canned 93 performance tune made my '08 F150 5.4L Supercrew brick go from a 9 second 0-60 to 6.59 seconds! Eighth mile before was 10.5 @ 67mph, now (according to the Gryphon) it's 9.90 @ 72mph! I can't wait to get those custom tunes!

Power Hungry Wed, March 18th, 2009 03:14 PM

Awesome, Eddie. Glad you're enjoying your new-found performance. :)

OK, now I'm bummed out. :( My Evo arrived at PHP on the 3rd, but I haven't heard anything about the upgrade yet. So much for me spending a lot of money to ship it UPS Next Day Air. :notallthere:

Hold on - You say you sent an Edge in, it arrived 15 days ago and you haven't heard or gotten anything back yet? Something's VERY wrong here. This is NOT the way Bill and Corey do business. I almost hate to ask, but are you sure it was sent to the right address? And, have you tried to call or email PHP (you should have done that about 10 days ago, in my opinion).

- Jack

Power Hungry Thu, March 19th, 2009 09:36 AM

Upgrades generally take 5 to 7 days. Unfortunately, we had to go down to Florida on extremely short notice for several days to move furniture out of my mother's house so she could lease it out. The trip (and subsequent unloading) ended up running longer than expected. We just got back in the office yesterday and are trying to process orders, answer a weeks worth of e-mails, and return phone messages.

If you will notice on both our website and forums, it clearly stated we would be out of town and unreachable. I don't see how we could have made it any more plain than that.

Here's where we're at. You've got 3 choices.

1) We'll overnight your unit back to you and we can cancel your order.
2) We'll 2nd day your unit back to you, put your custom files in queue and you can wait 5-6 weeks for your custom files.
3) We can finish your upgrade, complete the custom files and send as quickly as possible.

Let me know what decide.

Yeah, I called the day after UPS showed that it arrived, just to make sure they got it. After about a week, I sent multiple emails to both Bill and Corey. Because of the length of time that it had been, I was afraid that the Gryphon had gotten lost by UPS. :sigh: But because of the great people in this forum, and the terrific vibes that I get from PHP, I wasn't going to raise a stink about it. Bill PM'd me yesterday, and all is well in the kingdom! LOL :2thumbs: I'm just hoping that I'm somewhere close to the top of the To-Do List, because my rig sounds pretty pathetic without a tuner on it! Hahaha! And I still tell everyone that I know about the Gryphon. I have several guys that I work with that want to get one, but they want to check mine out first. I can't wait to show it off. :happy-dancing:

Oh yeah, BTW ... I opted for Door #3 ... I'll wait till Bill has time to do the tune, and then get everything back in one package. :woot:

SubiGT Thu, March 19th, 2009 05:49 PM

And this is why I will buy from PHP. Customer service that results in the experiences I have read on this forum will draw me in and bring me back every time.

Jackpine Thu, March 19th, 2009 10:13 PM

I think I understand now, TXWolf. Glad you're willing to cut Bill and Corey some slack.

It's pretty obvious to a lot of us, I think, that they've been under a whole bunch of stress lately, actually, more like for the last half year or so. Frankly, I don't see how they can keep going this way. Yet somehow, they seem to keep a cheerful attitude and always manage to put their customers first!

Be patient, you'll be happy with the outcome, I think.

I consider the Gryphon the best investment I made in my truck.

- Jack

TXWolf Thu, March 19th, 2009 10:37 PM

I hear ya about the stress. Been there ... still am. Hahaha! 2 months ago, someone tried to break into my truck. :( Luckily, Ford now puts a plate behind the lock cylinder, so the person just put a couple of dings in my door. But ... when I went to pick the truck up from the repair shop a week later, they not only did NOT get all of the dents out, but they must have left the doors to my truck open while they were spraying vehicles on both sides of it. There was overspray ALL over the outside AND inside of the truck. After weeks of trying to deal with the dealership (it was their collision repair shop that did the damage), I took it to another shop to get the dents removed correctly AND take care of the overspray. The overspray alone cost me an additional $300. :sigh: And the day after I get my truck back ... the shift cable breaks, and I'm left stranded at work. So now my truck is in the shop for another week. :censored1: But then I get my truck back, and decide to upgrade to the Gryphon. But when it took longer than expected, I just figured it was a continuation of the bad luck that I've been having with the truck for the last few months. :disbelief:

I'm just glad that Bill and Corey have such a great outlook on life. :2thumbs: They have WAY more stress than I could ever dream of handling! :cool_beans:

Jackpine Thu, March 19th, 2009 10:56 PM

Nice to hear that Ford recognized the problem with their door locks. I installed "JimiJammer" protectors in every one of my doors, including the tailgate for that very reason.

I'd actually recommend this product for anyone putting in a Gryphon in a truck without the plates. It is super easy for someone to poke a screwdriver in there and pop your door open without this protection. The passive anti-theft system will not sound an alarm and you'll just find everything inside your truck has vanished!

It's a nice day project to install the things, and you learn a bunch about your doors in the process.

- Jack

TXWolf Fri, March 20th, 2009 06:49 AM

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed with the alarm system in our trucks. I hate to spend $500 on a top of the line security system, but I don't want everything in my truck to disappear one day, either. :thumbsdwn:
