Uhh ohh.....

Sprint car build has begun.......

This thing should be fun!

cj45lc Mon, July 4th, 2011 11:05 AM

looks like lots of fun
how long is the racing season up there, 2-3 weeks...lol

907DAVE Mon, July 4th, 2011 05:21 PM

Almost 5 months long, I will be jumping in the sprint a bit late in the season, but I am still driving a legends car every week.

cj45lc Tue, July 5th, 2011 08:28 AM

I would have never guessed 5 mos.
Are you gonna put some pics up when you get her ready to race?
How you making out with the legend car?

907DAVE Tue, July 5th, 2011 11:59 AM

Heck yeah!

Legend car has been going great, I have a huge lead in points and won the last three mains in a row. In the 4 years I have raced, I have had a great time racing the Legend, but the challenge of it is gone now. I have already been state and track champion a few times and have beaten all track records, numerous times. The Sprint is a entirely different thing, and should be quite a challenge for me to learn.

88Racing Thu, July 7th, 2011 11:55 AM

Nice build...:thumbs up yellow:

Well it sounds like you need to move up to the Sprint before they put a bounty on your ***...lol
I'd be interested in seeing pics of the Legend car also

907DAVE Thu, July 7th, 2011 04:09 PM

Thanks for the pics Dave, but the pics just make me want to bug you even more...lol
What size is the track & how many diff tracks are in your area?
Do I see tread on the Legend cars tires, street tire rule?
What are the rules on the Sprint car...weight, cubic inch, tires, fuel?
Sorry man but you have brought back a lot of memories for me, I helped a buddy with a late model back in the '80's & had a blast learning about setting up the front end geometry, springs, stagger & all the rest. That car did pretty good on the Georgia-SC 1/2 mile dirt tracks.
Here's to you man, Track Champ 2011!!!

907DAVE Fri, July 8th, 2011 12:28 PM

No problem!

Our track is a 1/4 mile, just barely. It actually measures out to be a 1/4 mile one foot off the inside of the track. Our fastest time (and track record) is 13.90. There is another paved oval in Wasilla, which is about 400 miles away. That track is barely a 1/4 mile on the outside, and has high banking. There are quite a few dirt tracks around the state, but we only make it out to our local one twice a year for special events.

The Legends are a "spec" series car, which means everyone has the same stuff. We are governed by a very strict set of rules, which makes it challenging.....but inexpensive to keep a car on the track. The engines have a seal so they cannot be disassembled, but we are allowed to play with the carbs. The tires are made by Federal and are a street tire, with the Legends series branding on the side. Basically it all comes down to setup and driver.

The Sprint on the other hand do not have hardly any rules. The engines must be 360 or below, use ASCS heads and restrictor gaskets(intake). They are all mechanically injected and run methanol. But basically, you can run whatever you want for tires, chassis, weight, etc.

Right now I am leading by over 100 points at our track, and if I can finish every race I should be able to get the track championship this year. But, I am going to try and not think about it.:)

907DAVE Fri, July 8th, 2011 12:58 PM

BIG UHHH OHHHH.........looks like I will be piloting one of these things sooner than I expected.........

http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/t.../Photo0001.jpg

Tonight will be my first time ever driving one of these, and it will be in a race.

:thumbs up yellow: Yep run all the races the best you can & everything should shake out just fine.

Man as far as the Sprints go how light are they making them with the small block ? They should be like a rocket ship...lol
How hard of a tire do they run on the right rear & how much stagger in the rear with the tires, I take it the turns have to be pretty tight. We used to get away with a 30 on the rr at some places but would have to run a 40 at most places to keep from blistering it but that was on dirt. Shoot I'll bet they don't even use those #'s any more for the hard/soft of the tires, funny but we run the same 00 gumball on the left front for 2 1/2 years.

Good luck the rest of the year & I'm sure I'll be bugging you about weekly results now...hahaha Ohh & can't wait to hear more about your Sprint car:thumbs up yellow:

cj45lc Fri, July 8th, 2011 01:07 PM

WOW you put up the pic of that Sprint while I was typing the dum dum post before.
Give em hell tonight, just try not busting anything up haha

Good luck bud

907DAVE Fri, July 8th, 2011 01:50 PM

Thats the problem.....I dont get any practice first. Should be a blast though!

cj45lc Sat, July 9th, 2011 10:54 AM

How did you make out with the sprint last night Dave

907DAVE Sat, July 9th, 2011 06:39 PM

Got rained out.

Not sure the exact weight, but they are close to 1500lbs and probably inching up towards 700 HP.:evillol:

I dont know the durometer reading on the tires, but they are super soft. I will ask for ya tonight.

We have been playing around a bit with stagger and 9" seems so be the magic number, others run them up to 12''.

Rain sometimes sucks...I probably shouldn't have said that as dry as it's been here
Good deal bud run all the laps you can :thumbs up yellow:

cj45lc Wed, July 13th, 2011 07:16 PM

hey Dave you're killin me...lol
how did you make out this w/e
how'd the hot laps go

907DAVE Wed, July 13th, 2011 11:40 PM

Well we had made a few changes to the car before the race to help try and resolve a few issues it was having. We changed the fuel pump, a shock and adjusted the rear torsions....and I elected to sit out the hot laps so the the car owner could get a feel for what the car was going to do, so if adjustments were needed we could make them before the first heat.

I kick myself now because they would not let them get "hot", but only let them warm the cars up......said they wanted to keep the track nice before racing began........LOL.

A whole ton of parts for the other (my) car should have arrived today and we can continue putting it together soon.

cj45lc Thu, July 14th, 2011 07:20 AM

OK thanks for the update, wasn't trying to be a PIA but curiosity was killin me
how did you make out w the legend car
I take it you'll get to run the hot laps in the SC this week

907DAVE Thu, July 14th, 2011 11:53 AM

The Legend race went great, wont the main event (makes if 4 wins in a row now) and had the highest points for the night - which won me a LazyBoy recliner! The recliner crazy, it has an Ipod dock, built in speakers and a subwoofer. Plus all the standard stuff, massage, power recline.......lol.

Its for sale too!

They gave you a lazy boy...Dave, I think they are trying to tell you something. :hehe:

cj45lc Tue, July 26th, 2011 07:12 PM

Hey Dave how you making out with the races & Sprint Car?

907DAVE Wed, July 27th, 2011 02:31 AM

Got the 5th win in a row two weeks ago......and broke a head stud and blew a head gasket last week.....

I swapped in a spare motor yesterday and practiced with it tonight, and its STRONG! I really should have put this motor in the car earlier, just hope I can finish the season on it.

Sprint car is coming along, but I have not been around to do any work on it. Sounds like it should be near completion within the next two weeks.

cj45lc Wed, July 27th, 2011 09:27 AM

Sounds like a little bad luck, hopefully you'll hold on to the end of the season

Please put up some pics of the Sprint before you crack it up...j/k

907DAVE Thu, August 4th, 2011 12:01 AM

Bad news......after a barrel roll in the #611 car, the car we were building got most of its parts robbed to make the race the next day. Then to make things worse, the motor got sold out of it after another racer blew his. Only thing remaining is a seat and steering wheel and a few odds and ends.:thumbsdwn:

I am currently working on getting my OBS ready to sell to fund the purchase of a "turn key" car.

However, the Legend is working great and got another win last week.

cj45lc Thu, August 4th, 2011 07:33 AM

Thanks for the update Dave

Sounds like lady luck is given ya'll a fit, at least the Legend hasn't been touched by that b!tch...lol

Good luck bud
