Got My Gryphon
Finally got the gryphon. Only problem is I got the install instructions from the 2004-2008 version. I need the 03 Instructions.
|
Are they really any different? Possibly.
However, you can get the correct version here: http://dygytalworld.ehost-services13...3%20Manual.pdf Notice it says it's for the Edge programmer. That's just because Corey has not had time to rewrite it . I DO think you'll find the two are pretty "close" in terms of installation. Hope this helps. - Jack |
well I was more concerned with the installation, I figured everything else was the same. Thanks!
|
another question, I had to disconnect the gryphon to install it into the pod on the dash so it showed the hex code again when I installed it. I then went to the power programmer and selected the extreme tune (which is the tune that I uploaded previously) and I accidently said no to custom options and it went through the whole upload again. I just want to make sure that it didn't erase the stock tune that is listed under Return To Stock. Made me a bit paranoid that it may have backed up the extreme tune as stock. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, still learning is all.

There should be an indicator in the upper right hand corner.
If it says: 0-stock 1- 2- 3-extreme Sorry I left out descriptions for 1+2 I don't know what you have loaded on the gryphon. I think custom option would have taken you to tire size and gear ratios. Kind of weird it went through the whole process again. I have had mine unplugged 2 times and it just goes to hex code and then the normal heads up gauge display each time. No I don't think anything happened to the stock tune. The only thing that can happen is if you pull it out of the truck with out returning it to stock and hook it up to pegasus to do an update or down load. Lars |

I this is the case, you simply overwrote your previous Level 3 tune with a new, identical Level 3 tune. You still have your Stock Tune - it was saved when you programmed your PCM the first time around. And, as Lars pointed out, you should now be seeing a "3" in the upper right hand corner of the screen. - Jack |
yes I see the 3 in the corner. I was just concerned that since it went through the install process again that it overwrote the stock tune. Also if I update the splash screen will I need to tune back to stock before reinstalling the gryphon? Or is that only necessary when uploading custom tunes and updating firmware?

well I connected it to pegasus and put a splash screen i made on it, but didnt realize I was supposed to return the truck to stock. The option for return to stock is still there so here's hoping it didn't get erased. Otherwise my smog inspection could be a problem.
|
That is what I understood from other posts. Who knows maybe I misunderstood something in another post. I was just trying to caution you. Just was being cautious/reserved in my response. If the splash screen change worked without going back to stock great I learned something also.
Accidents do happen and wouldn't it be better if the truck was in stock? Lars |

Possibly, just possibly, updating the splash screen is not quite like updating firmware - in fact I'll bet that's the case. I'm betting your stock tune is still there and everything is fine, but - In the future, return the Gryphon to stock before connecting it to your PC, and DO NOT return the truck to stock for an emissions inspection! That's an almost certain way to get a failure unless you put your truck through enough drive cycles to get rid of codes the set back to stock creates. Just take your truck to the emissions station with your current tune set in. Everything I've read on this says the only people who fail are the ones who DO set their trucks back to stock before the test! If it will make you any more comfortable, simply remove the Gryphon and tuck the OBDII cable up out of sight before you take it to emissions, so they won't have a reason to question you. That's what I plan to do. - Jack |
Ok so as far as emissions go will the custom tune I have ordered be ok for the testing or not? That was why I wanted the stock tune, since California has strict requirements.

But, EVERY post I read that talked about setting their truck back to stock before the test, reported a "failure"! This is because of codes in other components that have to go through "drive cycles". - Jack |
so I sent my hex code via pm and email about a week ago, but havent got any response. I just want to make sure that the info was received. Its gonna be a long 4-8 weeks! :drool2:

If you don't think they got it try again they had a busy weekend.
Another place to put the gryphon info is in this forums user cp. Go in there and put the hex code in and serial number in. Lars |

If you already haven't, add your first and last name to your UserCP (it can only be seen by Bill or Corey). With the many new members this site is getting, it makes it difficult for Bill and Corey to connect the forum nickname to the person.

does anyone know if it is possible to run the CAI with the tranny tune? I only ask since the tune doesn't do anything to engine. Just a thought since I figured it would be no different then running stock with CAI. Also does anyone know if my 03 model year truck has a lean problem with the CAI? I have been told this primarily effects 05+ models. I'd like to continue with the performance tune but gas is getting back up there and I am not sure how the tow tune is as far as a daily driver. Thats why I am considering doing the tranny tune.

But, before I got my 87 non-tow tune, I used my custom tow tune (and before that, the canned tow tune) as the daily driver. It was fine as far as I was concerned. - Jack |
well I know its ok to use the cai with the tow tune, but which would be better as far as mileage goes? tranny or tow tune? Thanks.
|
You're probably going to see a slight reduction in MPG using Level 2, but, I don't think it's much - especially during a constant cruise.
