Questions about chip and trans shifting

I have an early 99 7.3 auto 4x4 and just had a new tranny built for it this past week with a 6.4 converter and a newer valve body as well as a few other little things. My question is this, my original trans would slide into 3rd gear and this one shifts just like my other one. Im pretty sure this is just because of the stock tuning but it really bothers me the way it shifts from 2-3 and i would like it to be firmer and more precise. Has anyone had this problem and can one of yalls chips fix this? thanks

Define newer valve body. And yes tuning can help firm up shifts.

I think its out of a 2002 model, where my truck is a early 99. so its a stock valve body but its better then what came in my truck.

First I would suggest a valve body from Gregg Evans. I know there are some other big names out there but to me if a guy that I trust on tranny uses his stuff then I can trust its good stuff. http://www.dirtydogperformance.com/t...r/prod_77.html then get a chip matched up to it. I am not sure if Bill if familiar with Greggs stuff though. I am not a fan of firmer shifts just by programing alone. When a valve body is done, some of the holes are enlarged. So not only is the pressure upped the area is upped also therefor giving you greater holding force.

Alright ill check that out, also i was reading that a pcm out of a 99.5 to 02 would be a good upgrade and that they are the best pcms to put chips on. The pmt1 i believe.

If you get a chip it can be burnt using what ever stratagy was best. IE for OBS trucks the best one was TDE1 but if you had a different computer and ordered a chip, the tuning would be based off the TDE1 programming. Unless your computer is toast save your money.

Early 99 would be easily upgraded by putting in a DPC 422 PCM.
