Pheonix VS. Superchips 1705
Besides the obvious, change on the fly and choose the tunes. What kind of benefits, performance, and newer technology should I see? Much needed info to keep the wife happy on the choice to buy the Pheonix.

I haven't had an opportunity to look at any Superchips tunes but I had run the 1705 programmer for a while on my 2001.
Observations: Superchips added power. The accelerator pedal was fairly sensitive but I've run far more sensitive programming. Bill's programming for the Phoenix has a near-stock accelerator pedal feel for the first 1/3 to 1/2 worth of travel and then has a linear set-you-in-the-seat feel. The accelerator pedal feel is a lot better. As far as the transmission feel goes (if you have an automatic), the shifts are far more precise. Bill's are a little too firm for my liking but they are a definite improvement over the Superchips. |
Oh, and I forgot to mention that a flash programmer such as your Superchips doesn't actually replace the entire binary code in the PCM so if you have an "undesirable" PCM code then you are still stuck with that code after programming.
If you go with a chip from PHP, then you will get the latest and greatest PCM base file for your model of truck that has more desirable shifting/torque converter operation. Hope this helps! |
Thanks that does help. As for towing will the egt's be lower than the 1705?
|
I am sure they will. When I ran the 1705 in mine, the EGTs were always high when towing and I constantly had to reprogram to stock just to tow.
Bill's tunes will make your EGT happy! |
SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That will make the wifey happy! Thanks again.
|
I just had my truck out on the freeway today with a few little hills I don't think I went over 1100F EGT's to reach or maintain 70ish with 9500lbs of bobcat and trailer even up the few hills on the fwy. that was on 40HP tow tune. but never had to floor it either, which would probably upped the EGT"s pretty quick

This is a slightly doctored quote made by Dan (Kwikkordead from FTE) from PHP's testimonial page:

I know this is an old thread but I have a similar question.
I have a Superchips 1705 and am wondering what kind of raw power increase a chip with the standard settings would net for me. I have a manual trans so shifting is not a concern. I have previous experience with Tony Wildman's tunes on a different truck. Are the PHP tunes comparable in feel? |
Night and day difference vs the 1705 I ran one for awhile.. even with the standard trans you should notice a much more noticeable power difference..
