CAI needed??

I've been waiting to get my custom tunes until I get my CAI but after reading some topics on here, it has me wondering if I really need one. I do often take my truck over 3500 RPM's, but if just doing the GOTT's intake will work just as well then I can't wait to order some tunes.

Can someone shed a little light on this for me?

Thanks!

I'd go with this...

Probably looks sort of sexy too, eh? I have to say I haven't noticed any noise with my homemade one.

As I said in another post, I can't sing to save my life; however, for you, Jack, I'd be happy to make a downloadable .mpg of me humming a few light ditties so that you don't feel left out. :hehe:

Well I have a K&N 63 series and it sounds fairly horny as well.......especially on the highway at certain rpm's. I feel like my intake makes a difference at 3000 rpm and above like Bill said. However.......I can honestly say my truck feels stronger in the winter up here in Canada.
I realize that it only adds about 8 hp at 3500 rpm on a dyno, but I feel like mine offers more than that (atleast in the winter). I could be wrong but I wonder if "real world" performance could be better than the dyno would indicate ???.........atleast some of the time.
I know when it is -25 and I'm cruising at 65mph and pull out to pass.......my girl really talks business and the intake really growls. If it's that cold outside and I'm doing 65 mph, can you imagine the rush of freezing cold air coming into that engine? You couldn't measure that on a dyno.....could you?

Kids wake us up to realities, don't they?

I should qualify my comment on the lack of noise from my intake, since I haven't brought it up to WOT yet. Has to wait till I get it out on the highway.

Oh, and thank you Bill for the rebuilt tunes. The downloads and reflash went without incident.

Jack: Why did you have to get your tunes rebuilt?

Corey jumped in here ahead of me Chris. The real reason is that I belong to the "If it ain't broke, fix it", or, "Update everything right away cause you may be missing out on something", or, "I want the latest and greatest", or, "I get bored if I don't have something to play with" camp (take your pick).

So, since Bill creates updates to the Gryphon's firmware every now and then that CAN improve on its capabilities, I wanted to take advantage of them. But, my tunes were built before the cutoff date (it was sometime in November I think) where changes to the firmware no longer wiped out the custom tunes, I had to have them rebuilt.

I'm actually a bit surprised that Bill hasn't been flooded with requests for this by now.

Anyway, nothing changed in the tunes themselves, it's just that they can coexist with Gryphon firmware updates from now on.

Oh Cool.........Bill is rebuilding my tunes as we speak (for a different reason) but does that mean I will be up-to-date as well?
