Towing in HP mode?!?!
I had to do about 600 miles of freeway towing today (about 6500-7000lbs) and I didn't get a chance to swap in some tow tunes on my FU beforehand. I did all my driving in the mildest tune I had which was the 80+HP setting. I was just wondering if this could be harmful?
Maybe it's just me, but when towing my truck felt a lot more sluggish and took quite a bit of time getting up to speed(but I was trying to avoid going above 1000F EGT). Could this be a result of towing in the 80+HP tune or is it in my head? I feel like there should be a lot more get-up-and-go since this truck is rated upwards of 20k. |
Hey bud I tow my 9-10k horse trailer in the 80dd tune all the time with no problems at all. I bet it did seem sluggish if you where worried about 1000*egt but your temps would have probably been better if you would go on with it, as in getting the rpms up. You got plenty of get up & go if you just ask for it. The egt will get higher if you lug the engine.

I pull my loaded car trailer around on the 80dd setting with no problems, I have a 65hp tow setting but rarely use it as my truck does fine on the other settings, I pull my unloaded trailer around on the 120race setting and dont really see any adverse effects just have to watch the temps close

The only things you'll notice while towing in higher HP or DD tunes are an increase in EGT while accelerating at a decent pace (NOT trying to keep EGT low) and early shift points. Otherwise, nothing else is too different.

hey thanks for the replies. I was worried about EGTs getting too high but I guess I should only be worried around 1200+?
