Maybe, I didn't read it past the part that said it could be turned off. 4wd was another feature I decided I didn't really need. I've been stuck one time and not even 4wd could have gotten me out because I slid down the side of a muddy hill.
And thats because I was playing where I shouldn't have anyway.
