The verdict is that the condition that would cause the code has mysteriously gone away.

(The truck has "fixed itself".) This can actually happen, under certain rare circumstances, and don't ask me what they are, because I don't know the answer!
Really, though, the "code thing" in most cases is simply an interpretation of the PCM of a voltage that it receives from a sensor. If the sensor transmits a high or low voltage, the PCM "thinks" there's a problem in the system that the sensor is monitoring and sets a code accordingly. Notice the sensor itself COULD be faulty, or, the wiring to the sensor could be faulty. Something like a wiring fault can produce a code intermittently.
