You've got me! My display does not show "TQ Lock", instead, it shows a window called "Comm Gear" which shows a number for the gear I'm in and a "lock" symbol for when the Torque Converter is locked. I see and feel an rpm drop anytime the converter locks, and it agrees with the display.
Driving around town, without cruise control on, it's pretty much always locked above 40 mph, but not if I take my foot off the gas and "coast", which Bill explained is a fuel saving strategy.
Now that I think of it though, when cruise control IS on, the converter really tries to stay locked up, even going downhill. I mentioned that in another post and guessed it might be Ford's way of trying to hold the speed constant (uses engine braking to keep from accelerating). If I tap the brake going downhill under this condition, the cruise immediately goes off or course and the converter unlocks - and, my truck accelerates.
