Canned or Custom when odering?
I am seriously considering purchase of Gryphon. I am wanting to know if I can buy the Gryphon with custom tunes already installed based on my truck info or do I have to receive it first and wait for tunes in the e-mail.
Did a quick search but did not really find my answer. Thanks, John |

I suppose it could be done like you ask but PHP would have to be the ones to make that call.

The only problem is that we have no idea what your calibration code is so we wouldn't be able to make you custom tunes up front. The ONLY way out of that is if you happen to go to the dealer and they give you the current calibration in your PCM and you provide that to us.

OK. I think I need to do some more research here on this site.
I am not sure what the calibration code is or where to find it, or how you folks even go about getting it. I also need to figure what the heck a hexkey is as well. I just started looking around here in these forums so I will be doing the 'search' button a bit more to get some understanding of what needs to be done. Thanks for the replies, John |

1. HEX CODE
2. HEXKEY 3. HEX CALIBRATION 4. PCM PROGRAMMING STRATEGY And some other ones are all the same lingo. The HEX stands for what version of Ford's software/firmware your truck's pcm is programmed with. Each HEX is used with specific trucks. The HEX varies by year and model of truck and its options. The HEX is a cornerstone for custom tunes if PHP doesn't have it they can't write the tunes for you. You can go to a dealer and get it but they might have to hook up their computer to your truck's PCM in order to see your HEX code. They also may charge $20-$90 to do this. Sometimes if you look on your pcm there is a sticker with the code on it. But the only downside to this is if you bought the truck used and the previous owner had it reflashed and the dealer didn't put a new sticker on it. Which happens.

Got it. So it looks like I order the Gryphon first and then everything comes after that.
The programmer extracts the needed, correct code for programing. The custom tunes if wanted are built from these codes stored in the ecm. I also understand that Bill 'tweaks' the canned tunes in the Evo before he ships them out. Alrighty then. Break out the plastic and let the fun begin! John |
