Should he go for it?
so my dad bought a 08 f-250 crew cab with the 8ft bed with the 5.4L two years ago and hates it because it has no power and gets horrible mileage.
recently he has started to look at 30 ft trailers for a hunting cabin heres a couple questions, does he buy a 2010 f-350 diesel, (just drove a 2010 f-350 crew cab, 8ft bed king ranch loaded with all goodies yesterday and could get it for around $45k possibly a little less) wait for the 2011 but wait awhile because he wont be able to afford the payments because of the price of a new lariat ~$60k : shrug: we are a little scared about the MPG of the 6.4, we are hearing it averages around 12 mpg which is usually only about 1-2 mpg better than the 5.4L. if we were to get it, we would add the gryphon of course as well as CAI and possibly exhaust. What mileage would this be looking at? Would it make more sense to just wait and see what the new 2011 is getting mpg wise? thanks guys

The 2011 6.7L Diesel has significantly high MPGs. I don't remember the numbers off of the top of my head but it is a big increase over the 6.4L.
If he wanted a 6.4L, I would wait a couple months. The 6.7Ls are just hitting the dealers around here and the prices on the 6.4Ls should be going down so they can move them. Kenny

Remember just because the 6.4L gets poor mileage stock, you can buy alot of diesel for a 15k difference in buying a truck, based on a 5 mpg difference (6.7 vs. 6.4) So based on a 6.4 getting 14 and a 6.7 getting 19, with diesel $3.50 a gallon it costs you $65.78 more per 1000 miles to drive a 6.4 over a 6.7. You can drive a 6.4 alot of miles to recover the $15,000 price difference. Which should be ~228,000 miles. @ $4.50 a gallon its $84.58 per 1000 miles, or a total of 177,333 miles. I hope that made sence Here's another option, DPF delete with a Gryphon will get you closer to the 19mpg the 6.7 makes. I don't have a a 6.4, I hear 17+ is not out of the question.
