Check Engine Light
Hey guys, I was on my way in to work this morning when I noticed the cel came on, (the engine, not the wrench). The only code I have been able to pull so far is the IAC code for too low of an idle.
She was doing 65-70 just fine the whole time, fluid temps looked fine so I kept on truckin. I hit traffic & take to the surface roads, still doing ok, I take a right hand turn she dies on me. I coast into a parking lot, turn the key off, and go start again, she starts relatively easy, idles fine, only code is still the iac, I take off again, this time staying on surface roads though I did get up to 50 at one point. I am now in downtown Houston waiting for a light when all of a sudden there's a surge in the rpms (ac off the whole time) I get up into the 900's then drops to the 300's then dies. I go to start first time nothing, second time it's turning but not firing so I step on the gas, and she roars to life. I make the rest of the trip to the office, check the codes still just the iac, I parked, programmed back to stock, and have cleared the codes for now. Anyone experience anything similar before? I got down to about an eighth of a tank yesterday before filling up, outside of that everything has been the same, I'm thinking (hoping) it's just a gunked up tb at this point. |

What's the code(s)?
What year truck? What size motor? General maintenance? Fuel filter. Clean the TB. Clean the MAF. Fuel control module? Peace!

I've been reading recently of problems with the Fuel Pump Driver Module, which is mounted on a cross-beam above and in front of the spare tire. Basically, it gets corroded and cracks from distortion. This can leave you stranded, obviously, but I don't know that it would give the symptoms you describe. However, it DOES control the speed of the fuel pump (under command of the PCM), so possibly it could be on it's way out.
I don't know what a Fuel Control Module is either. - Jack

Jack,
That's what they get called up here. Sorry I didn't use the right terminology. Same thing you mentioned in your post. Peace!

Causes
A P0506 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following: • A vacuum leak • An air restriction in the intake air path or exhuast • A faulty positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve • Damaged/failed/dirty throttle body • Internal engine problem • Failed PCM Possible Solutions This DTC is more of an informational code, so if there are any other codes set, diagnose them first. If there are no other codes, inspect for vacuum leaks, restrictions, and damage. If there are no symptoms other than the DTC itself, just clear the code and see whether it returns. So general maintenance might clear up the issue. Peace!
