Brake upgrade & controllers
Just bought an 18' travel trailer for my trip/move to Alaska in July and have been thinking about upgrading my brakes. The trailer has 4 wheel electric brakes so I need to decide what electric brake controller to get. I bought the anti-sway towing set-up the guy used with his Chevy 1500. Dry weight is 3,450lbs. I use to tow my wife's car on a dolly with just the regular brakes but going 5,300 miles with hills I don't want any problems. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!
(I did get custom towing tunes...hope Corey gets the shipment from edge today!) |

I've always had good luck with Tekonsha. I've installed about 60 of them and had zero problems. Whatever you go with, make sure they have adjustable gain to control how fast brakes come on. Some even have a cable that can attach to your brake pedal to manually control gain to make your braking style.
Cheapie units only have adjustable current and come on 100% as soon as it sees a brake signal. Not good, especially on slick or loose surfaces. Take care.
