Phoenix Switch-On-The-Fly Chip (DISCOUNTINUED) (Disabled)
Power Hungry no longer sells the Phoenix/TS chip, but if you need custom tuning we can recommend a few really good tuners that will be able to still provide tuning and support for your chip.

If you have any other questions or comments about the Phoenix/TS chip, please post it here.

Default Question on tunes within same category

I'm about to place my order but, I have some questions about the tunes within the same category. I'm curious about how much of a difference there is between the 65DD and the 80DD. I typically drive my truck very easy and I think I've only had the pedal on the floor once. If I drive the truck as I usually do (which is easy) would I notice a difference in the 80DD vs. the 65DD? I'm not sure that I should get both the 65DD and 80DD, don't want to waste a spot on the chip if their about the same. I have the same question about the 65 and 80 performance tunes. I'm not sure I would need the 100 performance tune unless someone can say that it gave better mpg over the rest. Lastly since I have auto I'm wondering the difference in shifting between the different tunes.

I have two possible list of what to get:

#1
1.Stock
2.65DD
3.80DD
4.80 Light Tow
5.65 Performance
6.80 Perforamce

I'm wondering if I'm "wasting" two spots with have two tunes from the same category on the chip.

Option #2

1.Stock
2.80DD
3.80 Performace
4.80 Light tow
5.100 Performance
6.1100 High Idle

Any input is appreciated.

JMO for what it's worth

1 stock
2 DD...take your pick, I doubt you would be able to tell the difference between the two
3 tow...base this on the weight you will be towing
4 65 performance...you say you never get on it so that might be good enough to suit you
5 120 race..."it's better to have that & not need it, than to need it & not have it" for the smart a$$ that wants to try
6 combine the no start & high idle

Thanks for the info. I was curious if you could really feel a difference between the 65 and 80 tunes in their respective categories. If theres really no difference but a few hp then I'll go with the 80hp versions. Anyone know if the 65 and 80 programs are the same pretty much until you put it on the mat and that where the extra hp comes into play?

I would have replied earlier but been busy and tired.

This is what I recommend and have per Bill.
Stock
High idle (I use it periodically and my pref)
40 tow for heavy tow
80dd can use for light to moderate towing
100perf has differ shift points
120/140 race.

The thing about Bill's standard tunes is that the pedal is like stock or 2barrel carb but if you get into it, it's like a 4barrel and really wakes it up or gives you the power you need.

I imagine diff between 2 close tunes is the power will come on stronger with higher HP compared to lesser HP tune. 15hp is nothing you will probably feel.

Since you are not out for much maybe you should go with something like this. Keep in mind you do not have to do all 6 tunes either.

Stock
40 tow
65 or 80dd
80 or 100 performance.

I find that dd is good for in town and perf is better for hwy. I do not notice any difference in mpg between 80dd and 100perf. Race tunes are for fun. Hope this helps without confusing you any.

Can't edit, so....
Difference in shifting from my experience:

Tow tunes have a higher shift point between all gears. I think it's 5mph higher than stock.

DD I think has stock shift points

Performance is same as stock but it shift into of later, closer to 42.5/45.

The above mentioned is with easy driving. If your on it more, then the shifts vary depending on how hard your into it. Dd/perf will shift later if your really getting into it.

If I recall, dd/perf/race all feel pretty much the same power wise when driving miss daisy. It's when you get into it more or get on it when you feel the difference in power. Hope this makes sense.
