It's cool that you have actually harvested many of these fish yourself!
My friend has an Oscar and it's a jerk. He's probably about 8" long and the only fish that it won't eat are ones that are near his size (or a plecostomus). Another friend recently purchased a 70 gallon tank and filled it with small fish. Quote from Ron Camp (Ace Ventura, 1994): "No matter what is going on in my life, I can always watch them swim."
