If you have a 97, you have the older model pod. I actually started with one of those, and while it didn't "stick" to the dash, it never really went anywhere either, due to the tension in the cable and the way it mounted.
I finally DID apply some double stick tape though, I think under the front edge of the pod just above the vent. It seemed to work better than putting it at the back of the pod (toward the front of the vehicle). - Jack

I put 3m double sided tape from Walmart on mine. I put 2 strips on the side of the dashboard towards the door. I put 1 on straight part, then did a small piece where it curves. Then I put a SMALL piece on the curved part of the pod that fits inside near the gauges. I actually stacked 2 3m double sided tape so it would stick. It fits good. And it hasn't affected my dash from the 2 times I had to remove it. It wouldn't stick without any tape. Once you peel the pod off after taping it, you'll have to retape it.

i think a good part of mine is that its cold out side and everythings harder then a board.... lol
