2007 5.4 Lariat Screw 4x4

37,500 miles

Was traveling up a moderate size hill in N. Texas in cruise control set at 72 mph and when the tranny downshifted to adjust speed, the rpms went up to 5K and so depressed brake to lose cruise. It limped home another 75 miles (almost all the way), but it was slipping bad then lost all gears but third, even reverse. Dealer said it was a total loss, so they put in a new tranny in under warranty and added an exterior in-line filter coming out of cooler mounted up front.

Hopefully they replaced the cooler too!
The cooler is a great place for debri to collect and tough to get it out of there.

Add mine to the list of failures.

2007 99K miles, started slipping in 1st gear. 390 miles later (truck got me home home!!!) all forward and reverse gears were gone.

Never asked what specifically failed.

2006 F150 5.4L
Lifted on 35's, 3.73 gear.
Transmission let go at 60k

Started slipping into 4th gear, then 2nd to 3rd, then 1st to 2nd until it finally barely moved. Few weeks before I heard a squeaking noise in the morning on cold start, then would go away after it warmed up.

Turns out the Torque Converter came apart and took out the tranny. So $1800 later I have a rebuilt tranny with shift kit and an upgraded converter. They say the fins are only spot welded on the stock converter so this new one is braised on all the fins. Hopefully it holds together longer this time.
