Default bad cats?

ok so im still chasing the p1151 code. im starting to think its one of my cats clogged up or gng bad. ive noticed a rattle from the front drivers side getting louder and louder and occurring more often. so my questions are:

can a bad cat. cause a p1151...which is lean or rich in bank 1 sensor 2

and secondly are there catalytic converter insulators or heat shields on my truck?

i will most likely goto high flow cats....but what abt the pre-cats???

P1151 is basically a lean code for Bank 2 Sensor 1.

Have you changes that sensor yet?

A quick and easy way to verify it is the sensor is to switch it out with the O2 on Bank1. If the issue now is on Bank 1 then BINGO!

If problem continues on the Bank 2 side then I would be looking elsewhere.

Do you have a way of monitoring the O2 sensors?

Do what Dave suggested with switching them.
The HF cats will replace both the precat and cat.

thankx for the recommendation dave...ive nvr messed w 02's b4 so its looks like its time to learn. interestingly, i got p1153 yesterday and the gryphon gave me a description something like 02 slow to switch or something....i cleared it cause i was at a gas station. but it seems more and more like an 02 is gng....ill try switching them and see what happens...

just so i know where does each end of the o2 connect?...i can see the one end around the back of the headers but where does the other end connect?

They will connect to the main harness above/ around the transmission.

If you don't already have one, now would be a good time to get a O2 sensor socket. They are fairly inexpensive but will make life a whole lot easier.

The sensor socket removal tool is to remove the O2 sensers because they have a wire on them the socket is notched to accomadate the wire.
Its not for testing.
You should be able to pick one up from any autoparts store and yes there are different sizes. So ask the parts counter dude which one is right for your vehicle application.

Peace!
