You can run 93 gas in an 87 tune, but it wont take complete advantage of the 93, even if you change the timing, but changing the timing would help.
and again im no expert, but this is what ive seen/learned from reading the forum for the past yearish

Funny, my custom 87 on 87 beats my canned 93 on 93.

Maybe that but as Bill says, every truck reacts differently. What works for one doesn't always work the same for another.

Also, if you don't completely FILL your tank with 93, you are running a mixture that has an octane rating somewhere in between. Longshot's advice to start with +1.5 degrees of advance is a very good idea in this case. (If you were "half and half", you'd be burning 90 octane gas.) Later, when you fill up again, you'll be a lot closer to a true 93 octane mixture.

Yea. Lovin the 93 octane. Set my gears correctly, tire size correctly, and advanced timing by 1.5 so far. And big time difference. Just did the 1/4 in 15.18 with a .76 reaction.
Might try to advance timing to at least 2.0, possibly 2.5 and try to get into the high 14s. Defitanly should of done a 93 octane tune. Oh wells. Next mod I get I will get 93 custom instead of the 87. |

Be careful on that timing. Of all the changes you can make that is the one where you can have too much of a good thing. If you hear anything that doesn't sound right back off the timing. You will probably be hitting a peak soon though since you are making tweaks for 93 on an 87 tune.
