The Conversation Pit
This is where EVERYTHING else goes. No subject is too mundane. How's the weather in your area? Did your kid cut his first tooth? Really, what do you think about the President? And don't get me started on Cummins and Duramaxes. Have at it!

Found it on the front webpage of one of my local Ford dealers. I thought was pretty cool and did appreciate the points he made, including mentioning both GM's and Chrysler's contributions to the auto industry.

As always, there are many facets to every issue and I'm sure Sen. Shelby has his reasons, which may or may not self serving. Having been a victim of prejudgment, I try to make sure to get all the facts before making any decisions on a specific topic.

I do think that the Big 3 are not exempt from the wasteful corporate spending and bloated executive salaries, any more than I think anyone on Wall Street is exempt. However, the point that if the American auto industry should fail, the Nation's economy would come to a grinding halt is entirely valid. Not only would millions of people be out of work, but the only car you'll be able to buy would forever be an import. Your choices will be made for you.

I think it'll be interesting to see where this goes.

Very well said. Many of these points I have been stating in letters to my reps. in DC and in other forums.

Most of the people making decisions that are going to affect the vehicles we will be making: 1. Many don't drive American cars, 2. Never worked in the auto industry in any capacity, not to mention a real private sector job, 3. Have not studied anything about what is involved in the production of a car and the unique behavior of the automobile business, and 4. Don't realize that when they claim the US makers don't produce the cars people want, many of us know better, trucks and SUV's were being made because that's what people wanted. In fact, they sold so well that the import manufacturers developed their own full-sized trucks and SUVs to get part of that market. But, the media and reps in DC don't want to admit the truth since it doesn't fit into the agenda they want to push down our throats.
