Well said cody, my truck is capable of over 20mpg but as said you need to drive it like you want it, heck i've got 19 mpg on my last two trips and that was climbing mountain grades up and down..

Obviously my truck is lighter than others(about 7k) so I can get better fuel mileage easier..

I'll throw in my simple tips if thats okay.. common sense: keep it below 2K RPM's.. if possible... this is about 70mph for those of you with 3.73's.

Accelerate easily.. I know that can be hard..

And lastly braking wastes energy..brake earlier and not so hard maybe you wont have to come to a complete stop(say a red light turns green before you get to it).

And oh yeah inflate your tires!!!! :P thats bout it.

great article, but I sm still in the hunt for 20mpg. I think it's there do I expect it when I'm pulling my trailer no but I would like to see 16-17.
I think fuel price issues have been around now long enough that poeple get the idea of driving for mpg's. No one is asking for miracles just a helping hand from the guys that can control the part of the truck we can't the pcm.

Unless we make the truck lighter, more aerodynamic, and limit the speed to 55 MPH (and also make the truck REALLY gutless), I still call it a miracle.
