Phoenix Switch-On-The-Fly Chip (DISCOUNTINUED) (Disabled) Power Hungry no longer sells the Phoenix/TS chip, but if you need custom tuning we can recommend a few really good tuners that will be able to still provide tuning and support for your chip. If you have any other questions or comments about the Phoenix/TS chip, please post it here. |

Building up trans will I need a reburn?
I am rebuilding my trans and am using the transgo tugger h2 kit and also a Recon triple disk billet converter with a slightly lower stall speed, hd clutches, fully splined drums, machined center support, and a few extras. My ? is will I need a reburn on my current programs.

The Tugger H2 kit is a good kit to go with. It's not too aggressive but still provides noticeable improvements to the shifting operation. You'll need a reburn only if you find the shifts are uncomfortably firm. Otherwise, you should be just fine.

Shifts seem to be about perfect and I like the new lower stall. Haven't towed heavy with it yet but am looking forward to it.

Noticing when tranny shifts from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 and downshifts 4 to 3 and 3 to 2 I get a shift flare (firm shift then slight rpm spike and then locked in). Does it in all tunes under half to full throttle shifting and especially when towing. Can this be tuned out? Kinda annoying. Been gone and haven't driven truck much since tranny install. Thanks.

Doesn't sound like a tuning issue.

I was told that because of the quicker shifts that the stock shift/torque conveter lockup strategy is to slow now causing the slight flare in rpms. Or is this just bull crap?

The only thing that I can see happening here is a supply issue of fluid from the pump or a loss of flow through the passages/feed holes during a shift. Run it without the chip and see what happens. My guess is that the "slow" factory shifts will likely REALLY make the transmission unhappy.

I will try pulling it and see what happens. I also see that Ford had a tsb for this condition on the early trucks like mine. Their fix being replacing the solenoid pack and reflashing to a xle8 strategy. I don't think this was ever done on mine though since it was still labeled xle4. I never noticed it being an issue with the stock tranny either though. I would have thought that the tugger kit with the sonnax boost valve would take care of that though. Thank you very much with your help it is very much appreciated and it is help like this that makes me glad I choose PHP.
