Couple questions based on my truck and its mix of parts?
Well here is my situation I bought a truck used and have since found that it has a mix of parts from at least 2 different model years. The truck is a 2002 F-250 4x4 superduty extended cab. However I was cleaning the motor and it has a 2000 model build tag on it. So to make sure of what I had, pulled the plug on the side of the block and it has forged rods(so I assume the tag on the motor is correct). I don't know what year or family the pcm is (haven't looked yet) or how to tell what year transmission it is or if it has been modified or not.
I want to tune my own truck which leads me to looking at the minotaur tuning package. Also considered the FU chip but then I lose the ability to tune my own truck. Is the mix of parts going to add any complications to tuning or is it just find out what you have and go from there? also is it possible to purchase a couple tunes in addition to the package to get some instant gratification and work on my own tunes at my own pace? (probably a question for someone at php) any opinions comments thoughts. thanks kenneth |

Just an opinion (since you asked for opinions, comments, or thoughts):
I'm not trying to come across as a jerk, but if you don't know that the 1999-2003 trucks are basically the same (concerning your "mix of parts" comment), I suggest you read this blurb from the website: NOTE: This software product is extremely flexible and is designed for users with a strong background in automotive performance and tuning. As with most tuning software packages, there is a large degree of flexibility by which manipulation of data can cause major engine damage, transmission damage, or other drivetrain related failures. Power Hungry Performance will not be responsible for any damage arising from the use of any tuning products or calibrations. If you have any concerns or are in any way uncertain of your ability to safely tune your vehicle, we recommend that you do not purchase this software package and seek the advice or service or a performance tuning professional.

Yes I'm aware that the 99-03 trucks are basicly the same with a few variations such as powdered metal rods and fordged rods, and under the impression some PCM differences in the 02-03 years with how it controls as well as transmissions with the diode( right term escapes me right now), also i suspect i have a aftermarket valvebody. More concerned with having just a few minor differences mixed together having an issue getting the right definition if I decide to go with minotaur or if I go with the fu or fu2 chip needing to have my tunes tweaked to get my perfered shifting style.
Completely aware of php has no responsibility in what I do to my truck and rightfully so. I have a strong automotive background and understanding of how the diesel motor works. And feel that this is not to large of a jump to make considering my engineering background. And I take no offenence to your opinion and respect it I'm sure you deal with many people who don't understand what they are getting themselfs into. And I may be one of those people but don't feel that is the case. |
