Hello all, new to Powerstrokes and new to the forum. Installing a Hydra tomorrow (when it arrives) and look forward to being a regular on the forum learning about these oil operated diesels. I'm used to working on older mechanically injected IDI stuff, mainly 6.2/6.5 diesel trucks, and aircraft. So I'm sure I'll need all the help I can get.

Welcome and glad to have you with us!

The HEUI injection systems used in the Power Stroke are a vast departure from the old octopus mechanical injection of the GM 6.2/6.5 diesels. But at the end of the day, it's just a means of getting the fuel into the cylinders.

The benefits of the HEUI systems revolve mainly around the electronic controls which allow for variable timing, variable injection pressure, and more controllable low boost fueling. These all combine to help improve not only performance and economy, but also helps to reduce emissions.

HEUI systems are good for what they are, although the later common rail systems have several distinct advantages over the HEUI. You just have to look at it as a stepping stone along the road of diesel injection development.

Anyway, please feel free to ask any questions. Always happy to help people learn.

Take care!
