Hydra Functional Test Procedure
Every once in a while we get a call about a chip that seems to work on some positions and not on other. While this is an extremely unusual situation, it is certainly possible. Fortunately, this is a very easy situation to test.
In order to qualify whether the chip is functional in all positions, Please perform the following: Erase the chip and then program ALL positions with the following files, making sure to use the correct HEX code for the application. (Note: If you have custom files that were sent with your chip, you MUST save these files to your computer or you will lose them.) This process only takes a couple minutes and can save a lot of back and forth with diagnosing a chip concern. For each position, select the following Hi Idle files: 01 - 0 HP 1000 RPM High Idle 02 - 0 HP 1100 RPM High Idle 03 - 0 HP 1200 RPM High Idle 04 - 0 HP 1000 RPM High Idle 05 - 0 HP 1100 RPM High Idle 06 - 0 HP 1200 RPM High Idle 07 - 0 HP 1000 RPM High Idle 08 - 0 HP 1100 RPM High Idle 09 - 0 HP 1200 RPM High Idle 10 - 0 HP 1000 RPM High Idle 11 - 0 HP 1100 RPM High Idle 12 - 0 HP 1200 RPM High Idle 13 - 0 HP 1000 RPM High Idle 14 - 0 HP 1100 RPM High Idle 15 - 0 HP 1200 RPM High Idle Once the Hydra is programmed, start the vehicle and switch to each position to verify if the Idle RPMs change relative to the file in a given position. There should be an obvious change in Idle RPM for each position and should reflect the RPM for that position. If all the positions reflect the Idle RPM change correctly, then both the chip and the connection to the PCM are fine. If you were experiencing a drivability issue, it's safe to assume that the problem be related to the calibrations that were on the chip. If these were custom files, please contact your vendor or tuner for further assistance. If any of the positions drop back to a normal Idle RPM (usually around 700 RPM) or otherwise do not reflect the Idle RPM for that position, then please contact Power Hungry Performance for further assistance in order to arrange to have the chip replaced. I hope this information is helpful. Take care.
