Krylon should have some sort of prep procedure? I know I had to do something like that on my gsxr fairing but that was using dupont paint. Maybe see if there is any info in that link.

Mild soap and a good rinse.

I had one of the "old" style pods when I first got my Edge (that is now one of the first that Bill converted to a Gryphon). I tried painting it, without any serious preparation other than a soap and water wash (or maybe it was 409?). Anyway, I used DupliColor spray and the results were perfect. It also seems very durable.

I was simply never satisfied with the color. When I found out there were new pods available for my truck that MATCHED the dash, I immediately bought one from Corey!

Since I don't think you can get a gray one for your model year, I'd really look into having a rattle can filled with custom matched color. I think you'll be much happier with the results and I bet there are paint shops that will do it for not too much money.

x2 The krylon probably ain't gone to be a close match. I use to have a web site saved that mixed genuine ford paint for pretty cheap, and I seen it the results in person and it was 100% match...bad thing is, I lost it and can't find it though. I'll try to look.

It might have been this one? http://paintscratch.com/

Trouble is, this is an interior color. I wonder if a call to them would yield anything? They MUST have had requests for interior paint matching in the past. Be a pain to have to send them part of your dashboard.

I looked but that wasn't the website...but I am like you, I bet they have had request in the past and might could do something like that. But I am pretty sure the one I use to go to had a limited number of interior colors also.
