Since there's only a nominal 12V from the battery, I would assume that Gryphons and the like have a DC-DC converter to up 12V to 18V for that one pin during PCM programming.
THAT'S pretty amazing! I wouldn't have thought there would be a voltage converter in the Gryphon. Still, I can see how this "feature" keeps the EPROM from being programmed accidentally.

The DC-DC converter is probably a single-chip that sells for a buck or two in quantity. But I'm not busting open my Gryphon to find out.

I'm fine with: Input 12 V ---> |Magic Happens| ---> Output 18V

Good, safe idea from the Blue Oval folks. You've probably noticed during programming that the gauges, fuel pump, etc all shut off. Imagine a plain 12 volts getting shorted onto the programming line from some miswired or faulty aftermarket scanner while somebody is driving. Or a very bad stereo installation. PCM sees that misdirected 12V and shuts down all inputs and outputs thinking it's getting reprogrammed. Not going to be a good ending in a moving vehicle. Requiring 6 volts above the normal 12V to put the PCM into that mode pretty much rules out the possibility of all but an intended PCM shutdown.

Ok got it reinstalled and now the frustration sets back in.

Exact same problem as before.

Programmer initializes and does its thing.

Gets to clearing Checksum file and then says

Checksum File Failed and lists the Hex code and does nothing after that.

All i can say at this point is im very disappointed.

Maybe, just maybe, there's a missing "stock file"? It would not be your fault, but it WOULD take the Mad Doctor's intervention.

From everything I'm seeing, your truck would not have a "prior tune".

But, it's clear Bill is going to have to work with you personally. I'll try to get his attention in the Moderator's forum.

Checksum failure=The mad doctor's help

Have you always owned the truck or was it bought used?

If you bought it used that maybe where the problem is from!

I think he bought the truck new, Lars. That's why I'm totally at a loss here.

Wonder how Corey's doing? Bill can't be spread much thinner than he already is!

Yes i bought the truck New with 32 miles on it.

Bill actually was able to get a minute to call me last night as well. We talked it threw and he thinks my truck is stuck in some Calibration mode now.

Maybe caused by the original harness that was bad. Not sure. Bill said tonight he making me a spacial file that will basically upload the factory settings and then right after that delete it and load the custom tunes he made.

Hes not exactly sure why my truck is doing this but tomorrow 8am my time and 11 am his time i will call him and we will be working on it. So hopefully this will square it away.

I do want to say that for this many issues with a product i cant complain about service. Bill and Corey, my hats off to you both for helping me and getting back to me asap every time. Not very often you get service this nice when you cant see people face to face.

Thank you again.

We will keep working this problem tomorrow =)

Glad to hear you are getting help!

Sorry to hear about the problem!

Darn cable!

The only reason I was trying to see if your truck was used or new is that sometimes people forget about things. So I had a whole list of questions ready to go!
But I am glad to hear Bill is on top of this problem.
