Default Curious about programmer????

I am curious, I have a 95 psd and would like to add a programmer.
What is availiable, Griffin and the phenoix? Pros and cons/diffrences for each?

Are they programmers that need mounted and so they come with a pod?
what is the cost?

Adding a programmer (Gryphon):

Pros:

1. Easy installation. Plug in, follow the prompts, and play.
2. Forget it's there. No external parts/pieces to think about.

Cons:

1. Not "switch on the fly". Requires the engine to be shut off and 5 or so minutes to change "tunes".
2. If you feel that you need more than three different "tunes", then you're stuck with just three.

Adding a "chip" (Phoenix Module):

Pros:

1. Availability of up to six different programs.
2. Switch on the fly capability to instantly change your truck's personality.

Cons:

1. Requires a bit of mechanical competence to install.
2. Mounting of a control switch.

Bill said this in another thread and I agree:

In either case, a reliable and accurate EGT gauge is almost a necessity to prevent engine damage. You really can't go wrong either way.

Default Thanks

Does the Phoenix require a pod? I like the idea of whisper mode, I will have to look at the costs again.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, the Phoenix Module will require a gauge pod with at least a pyrometer. Keep in mind that the Gryphon programmer will also need a pyrometer probe installed in the exhaust manifold to display EGT.

As far as the Whisper Mode program goes, since you have an early single-shot truck, the whisper mode will work really well.
