Was the gryphon set back to level 0 "stock" before you tried to download the custom tunes?

no it was on lvevl 2

Jackpine Sat, July 11th, 2009 10:43 AM

Good! That's the problem! Pegasus is protecting you. You MUST set your truck's tune back to stock (Level 0) BEFORE you take the Gryphon out of the truck to download your tunes.

OK, confirm that you clicked on Updates->Targeted Functions. You DO NOT use Updates->Upload Custom File.

Then, did it seem to find the custom tune files?

Did it appear to try to download and install anything?

Also, when you have the Gryphon connected to the PC, and if you click on Update->Current Update Status, does it say that your custom files are available?

OK, I'd like you to try again. You're not going to hurt anything by doing this.

But, this time, can you disable your firewall and virus program? These sometimes cause problems and, PHP's website is "safe".

Just reconnect your Gryphon to the PC after you've started Pegasus and try to get the tunes with Upload->Targeted Functions with the firewall and virus checker disabled.

Let me know what happens. If this does not work, we'll have to bring Bill in to work his magic.

No, you first set the tune back to Level 0 (stock) in your truck. Then remove the Gryphon. On your PC, start Pegasus and then connect your Gryphon to the PC through a USB cable. If your tunes are ready, you download them by clicking on Updates->Targeted Functions.

Once that all finishes, simply unplug the Gryphon from the PC, turn your truck's ignition to ON (but do not start it) and plug the Gryphon back in to the truck. Then, you can install your new custom tune.

MX,

I am not sure where the problem is with the download.

Once again, please confirm that you are selecting [Updates] -> [Targeted Functions]. I know you have confirmed this previously, just want to make double sure.

At one point during the download (after the "Preparing Gryphon" and "Programming" status bars), you should see a Message Box that tells you to unplug the USB cable, reinsert the USB cable and then click [OK]. Are you getting to this point or does the download fail before you get the dialog? I just need to determine if the failure is during the transfer of the file to you from the server or if it is failing during the actual upload into the unit.

I'll be sitting here waiting for your reply.

Thanks.

The screen shots are a bit small to make out any details, but I can see that the serial number we have on recorddoes not match the one that is displayed in the software. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it sure isn't 1311 which is what your download has been set for.

Please provide the correct serial number so we can get the download corrected.

From what I am reading, am I correct in assuming you never get a display box that says "Preparing Gryphon"?

This would indicate that the file may be damaged. I will rebuild the file and get back to you in a few minutes. Sit tight.

Thanks.

Check your e-mail. We'll try it that way and see if it works. For some reason, the download seems to fail when retrieving the files from the server.

Power Hungry Sun, July 19th, 2009 06:55 PM

Oh for Pete's sake... Grrrrrrr! Hang on.

Power Hungry Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:01 PM

You didn't have anything else going on this evening anyway, right? Nothing like going to sleep or anything. ;)

I am programming a unit with your serial number and will figure out what's going on. I have a sneaking suspicion that something is not downloading correctly or the file is getting damaged in the transfer. I'll be able to tell in just a minute.

mxriderae Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:03 PM

ok .. as u said i have nothing to do :)

Power Hungry Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:12 PM

MX,

I tested everything here on the bench and it all works perfectly. I did both the Targeted Updates and the Upload Custom File functions and the unit updated without incident.

My concern at this point is that the data files are somehow becoming corrupted during the download/e-mail process. One thing I'd like to check... Can you please e-mail back the file I just sent you so I can see if it getting damaged in the transfer? That's the only explanation I have at this moment.

If the file is getting damaged, it might be related to your internet provider (some use compression that can damage certain files) or it might also be related to antivirus software.

As soon as you can get that file back to me, we'll be able to move forward towards a solution.

Thanks.

mxriderae Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:13 PM

well i understand and i appreciate it guys :)
am flying to another country after 12 hours

Jackpine Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:14 PM

I suppose there could be a hardware issue in his Gryphon, right? mxriderae, I believe when Bill says he's programming a unit with your serial number, he's "faking" that he has your unit on his desk and is trying to confirm just that possibility.

Edit: Or he could be confirming the problem is in a file transfer, just like he just said! :o

If the tunes will load on that unit but not yours, it implies some problem at your end. But, I'm certain Bill will get things working - eventually.

- Jack

Power Hungry Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:16 PM

Jack,

From what I've seen, it appears that the data file is becoming corrupted. I used the same file he did and I didn't get the "unregistered" error. This leads me to believe that the file is getting boogered up somewhere along the line.

We'll see in a minute. I just got the e-mail.

Cross your fingers.

mxriderae Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:17 PM

should i try to download it from another computer ..
or maybe i did somthing wrong while downloading or in the setting ??

Power Hungry Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:17 PM

Uh oh... no file attached.

Please resend with the file you saved on your computer attached.

Power Hungry Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:30 PM

Okay, so that scuttles that idea. The file is not corrupted and loads correctly on this end.

This leaves only the possibility that the computer may be causing an issue when trying to expand the compressed files. Since the software doesn't recognize that the calibration file is registered to your programmer and the software clearly indicates that the programmer is serial number 1750, that's the only thing we have left.

Do you have another computer we can try? Or I can try an alternate compression routine?

Let me know.

mxriderae Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:32 PM

i can try with other computer but tomorrow !?

Power Hungry Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:40 PM

Tomorrow is fine. I will also try an alternate compression routine that may help.

E-mail when you're ready and we'll try again. I'm sorry we couldn't get it straightened out this evening but we'll get it figured out and get you going.

Take care and have a safe flight.

mxriderae Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:44 PM

you too thanx :)

Power Hungry Sun, July 19th, 2009 07:59 PM

MX,

I have included another compression routine in the Pegasus software and rebuilt your calibration file. You might want try this on your existing computer to see if it works.
  • Run Pegasus
  • Go to [Updates] -> [Pegasus Update Manager]
  • Apply all current software updates (v2.01.0591 should be the current)
After the software is updated, try the [Targeted Functions] again. This different compression routine is a bit slower than the current one we normally use which is why we phased it out. However, it should work. Of course, it should have worked before so...

If this doesn't work, let me know and we'll hopefully be able to get it working on another computer. :2thumbs:

Take care.

Jackpine Sun, July 19th, 2009 08:45 PM

I want to interject a comment here. We normally don't see this kind of interaction with a member and Bill, because it mostly happens behind the scenes. (When it's all happening in America, it is often done by phone.)

Can all of us get a feel for the time involved in this sort of thing? Can you appreciate the level of personal care that is being shown here?

Sorry for sounding like a "cheerleader" (and I have lousy legs), but these kinds of activities (by Bill) are what eats up all his time. No wonder it takes so long to get a tune out.

And, for those of you that read an earlier post of mine, the problems are NOT always the fault of the member. I should not have implied that.

I am firmly convinced you will not find better customer service than what you get from PHP!

- Jack

mxriderae Mon, July 20th, 2009 04:38 AM

Done ... targeted function been downloaded :happy-dancing:
when i`ll return back i`ll let you know about the results :thumbs up yellow:
thanx Bill and Corey :cheesy smile:

Power Hungry Tue, July 21st, 2009 12:33 PM

Well, I think I identified the problem which, unfortunately, is directly related to the fact that he is out of the country and his computer uses a different character encoding than computers in the US or Europe.

While inconvenient, this does help a bit in regards to diagnosing future issues. It stinks because the current compression reduces the file sizes significantly so we'll just have to keep an eye on files that are sent outside of US and Europe.

Thanks MXRider for being patient and also for providing some very useful information. As Jack pointed out, people don't really understand what goes on behind the scenes and can't understand why we get backed up on custom file orders. It's seemingly small problems like this that can turn into hours (or even days) of troubleshooting and support, all of which takes time away from actually dong the custom calibrations. We have no way to plan for issues like these and order deadlines can be pushed back because of them. So we do ask everyone to please be considerate when we are delayed getting calibrations done. It's not because we don't like you http://dygytalworld.ehost-services13...s/i%20care.gif or that we enjoy dragging out custom tuning :busy:, but there are occasionally more urgent issues that need to be addressed.

Take care.

Or are you updating Pegasus? Or the Gryphon's firmware?

Well I would ask if it was set back to stock (0) but that didn't help the original OP in this thread, and im not sure why it would just be blank when you plug it back in. I would imagine you might have to get some technical suport from Bill on the issue.

This has happened to at least three other members. You'll have to get in touch with Bill. He needs to talk you through the "fix".

In the meantime, use the UserCP on this forum to enter your name and as much other information as you can. Bill needs this too.
