Gryphon
I am new to this forum, been reading a lot about the Gryphon over on F150online. Had a few question for yall. What is the current wait time for a Gryphon? If i do any mods down the road, bill can rewrite my tunes ($30) and send them through the server or something like that? Also what custoim tunes should i get, I want something that is going to give me better mpg on the highway, one that is going to give me some "power" and maybe like a tow tune, i only tow maybe 1-3 times a year or so. Thanks in advance
|
Wait times?
I really can't post that only Bill or Corey know that. What tunes? What octane do you like to run? How do you like to drive? Do rewrites on tunes due to mod upgrades? Yah they can but the rewrites may have a fee. Bill or Corey would have to answer that. How do tunes come? They come via pegasus, its the client server for gryphons. So basically through the internet. Answer a few of these ?'s and I will give you some more answers, excluding the wait time and rewrites. Lars |
Probably, a "power" tune would not be too different from an "economy" tune.
I honestly can't see changing between power and economy in daily useage. A towing tune makes perfect sense though. Current wait time for the "canned" tune Gryphon is the UPS delivery time. PHP tries to send them out within 48 hours of your paid order. Custom tunes are about 6 weeks now maybe? I think tunes ordered at the time of ordering a Gryphon are $30.00 each. I think though, if you order ones later due to extensive mods or whatever, the cost is about $60.00. (It's still a bargain in my book). Do go to their website and check on this though. It's all there and I just don't have time to do it for you right now. Tunes are downloaded and installed into your Gryphon using their Pegasus application, which communicates with their server. - Jack |
Thanks for the response guys. I drive pretty casual, sometime I like to get on it i usually run 87 in the tank. I live in TX and im from NC and i drive back there once a year or so, so would likea good mpg tune. Should i get 3 cutome tunes you think, or are the canned ones just as good.
|
I think the wait for canned tunes is longer than 6 weeks, I've been waiting 10.

Ever run premium gas? If your pickup is just transportation than a 87 perf tune would be it. Occasional towing under #2500 lbs doesn't require a tow tune. But if your future says your getting a camper than get a 87 oct tow tune or going to tow heavy loads. A 91-93 oct perf tune really wakes the truck up. Most people get 1-2 mpg more on perf tunes. While others stay the same. And some lose mpg. All depends on driving style and habits. Lars |

LOL's Lars |
You are correct
I did mean that I have been waiting 10 weeks for "custom" tunes. Good eye.
|
Sorry, Jason. I thought Bill had gotten more "caught up" than that. I just checked your serial number and you should be VERY close to having your tunes. On the first of July, Bill had gotten up to 1773. So, hopefully, you won't be waiting much longer.

I usually run 87 so i think that maybe an 87 perf tune and maybe a 93 perf tune would suit me good. I do rent a boat every now and then from base which is never bigger than a 20ft pantoon boat, most of the time it is sa 17' fishing boat so no need i guess for a tow tune. My truck is in the shop getting 7.5" of lift put on it (6" RC and 1.5 AS, 1.5 AAL) amd I also just got 35 KM2 put on it so i am waiting for it to get out so i can put in my order forim. I have to get some of the info off the truck to fill in on the form. Or should i say my wonderful wife has to get the info for me, becasue i am in Iraq. She has gotten all this done for me while i been over here, lift, tires, etc, etc. I bet i have changed my mind on these MODS over 100 times. But Thanks again for all the help guys
I got about 8 weeks left so maybe by time i get back the tunes will be ready. :) |
Be safe over there soldier!
Thanks for all that you do and serving our country! Now back to tunes. 87 perf custom 87 tow custom 93 perf custom Those are all good choices. Your wife will deserve a big thank you from you when you get back state side. Lars |
I'll add my thanks to you, and your Wife too, Jordan. "Check six", as we used to say in my Air Force days.
Do you have any idea what the boat-trailer combination you pull weighs? If it's no more than 2500#, I would not bother with a tow tune. Just get the other two and you could pull the trailer with either one. - Jack |
Thanks guys!! Yeah owe alot to the wife holding down the fort with a 20 month old and a full time job, and also putting up with me wanting to get someting done differnet to my truck everyday sending her 150 links to look at of differnt MODS:drool2:,
.... Just looking at the website i rent the boats from the pantoon boat weighs 3000 lbs all the other ones are 2000 and under, I may pull the pantonn 45 minutes up the road to the lake. I think i will go with tow tune just to safe. |
Looks like a good decision.
And, people really don't know the strain deployments have on families unless they've been there. Sounds like your Wife has the "right stuff". - Jack |
Just picked up a Gryphon used but pretty new over on F150online.com for $300.00 I didnt think it was too bad of a deal only had stock tunes in it and it is on 0, come with pod, cable and all. The guy was tried of waiting for custom tunes and said he was going a different route with his truck. But I got 2 months before i can even drive it, So now going to put in order for some custom tunes :)

Good, Jordan. Please put all your "personal" information into the UserCP and make sure Core and Bill have both your unit's Serial Number (S/N) and the vehicle's hex code. If your Wife has any questions on how to get this information, she can PM me through your account here.
- Jack |
Well wife got the Gryphon today, truck is still at the shop so she droped the gryphon off to get installed, she said guy looked at it like like ????? When she told him it was a custom modified Edge he was like ohhhh okay i got ya, but he's installing it for me, said he puts edge in all the time. I told him it was the same setup (I hope so) But I need to know, 1) Where is the Hex code located and 2) the serial number is on the Programmer its self. Thanks for all the help!

The ignition is ON when you do this, but the engine can be off. Tell her she won't hurt anything doing this, even if she makes a mistake. If she gets lost, just hit Menu till you back out to the normal display. - Jack |
So finally got my truck back the guy at the shop installed it and said the Gryphon read Error code 8. Any ideals?

Your truck runs, I guess, or your Wife would not have gotten it home, right? Is the Gryphon currently plugged in to the truck? If so, when she turns the ignition ON, does the screen light up? If it does, what does she see? Once we have answers to these questions, we might be able to progress. I'm going to try to bring Bill into this too, so don't give up on us. - Jack |
Yeah im not sure what he was talking about when he dropped the truck off i told my wife to send me a pic of gryphon, it was on level 3, so i called him and asked if he put a higher octance in it and he said no, but he had a error code 8? I had my wife turn the gyp back to 0 until i could figure out what he was talking about, but the truck runs fine, what can i do to get it to show that code again. If I have here unplug it and plug it back in> Thanks!
|
I don't even know what an error code 8 is! The first unit error code is 0x11.
Do you think your wife would be comfortable installing it with me on the phone or is it something you'd prefer to either wait or have a shop handle with me on the phone? What baffles me is that it was in level 3 so the vehicle obviously programmed ok, so when did the "Error 8" occur? Let me know how I can help. |
Yeah I dont think the guy knew what he was talking about? He is a dealer of Edge, he said he called Customer support for edge but they wouldnt help him. I tried to tell him it was re programmed. But is it fine if my wife runs in on level 1 without changing the gear/tire setting? Im going to have her unplug it and re plug it in to see what it says. Will respond back with info.
|
She unplugged it and plugged it back in, it said "ECM not found" then it went to the main menu screen. Is that good or bad?
|
Jordan, was the ignition ON when she unplugged it and plugged it back in? It needs to be. This actually sounds to me like the Gryphon could be set to a different tune level than the truck. I know Bill can get them back together again.
Jordan, I would advise against having the tech do any more work with the Gryphon. And, It's awkward to be getting information from your Wife through you (secondhand). Bill is a VERY easy guy to talk to and I KNOW he can talk your Wife through any fixes needed. I'd take him up on that offer. You might even have your Wife post here under your Screenname. We don't get upset over things like that. It's possible if we were able to communicate directly with the "operator" of the truck, things could get straightened out. - Jack |
That sounds good, When would be the best time to have my wife give hte company a call?
|
She's Central time, they're Eastern - one hour time difference. Here's a copy of their office hours: 12PM-9PM Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; 12PM-4PM Tuesday and Friday Phone: 678-963-9913
So, after 11:00AM her time? But, PHP's phones are VERY busy. It MAY take a few tries to get through. And, they close to phone calls during the third week of each month so that Bill can get caught up in his tuning. She could try PMing Groovy Chick or Power Hungry too. - Jack |
I was out of the office all day today (Wednesday) but will be around tomorrow. She can give us a call any time after 12:00 noon or if it's easier, PM me the number and a convenient time and we'll be happy to give her a shout and walk through everything.
Take care. |
Just got back from iraq and was playing with the gryphon and it is AMAZING, im not sure why it was saying ECM not found but I drove it home from the airport and it was a little slugish. We stoped to eat and after that i put it on level 1 and wow you could really tell the difference, I cant wait to get some custom tunes now.
