Fuel Milage

So, I am seriously consindering buying one of these php chips. What kind of fuel milage can I expect with the fuel sipper mode. I am running a straight pipe and have a k &n air filter. Any help is appreciated.

It's all up to the driver. I never had good economy because it felt WAY to good to push that skinny pedal to the floor!

cleatus12r Mon, January 26th, 2009 09:48 AM

My wife tends to get worse mileage than I do. Then again, she owns a 92 Subaru Loyale (maybe 60 HP) and LOVES to feel the rush of powah that the PSD affords. I've never really had a gutless vehicle so I can't feel her pain...although I get so frustrated when I have to drive her car.:cursin:

As far as mileage on a 94-97 PSD goes, it's not uncommon to gain 3-4 MPG highway. I tuned a 97 Manual that went from 14 to 18 (when driven nicely) and have a couple copies of that tune running around at this time. If you're driving around town or have a heavy right foot then all bets are off!

:hehe:
My last vehicle was a 84 honda accord...
I mash my pedal at least once a trip... usually more LOL

2-4 mpg is pretty good.

bamboo Sun, November 1st, 2009 08:31 PM

For you OBS'ers how many Miles per tank? I'm only seeing 220miles per tank, Which is 15Gallons I think:shrug:
want to try and improve mileage if can.

figure I post it here instead of making a new thread

I switch over at 1/4 tank and generally at 250-275 in town driving. We will see what happens when that big brown truck comes tomorrow or the next day. The best I have gotten in town was 22.8, I average 18.5-19.5 most of the time. If my OD is acting up as it has been lately again then I am down to around 15 in town. My best on the highway was 22 and I was driving 75-85 across TX, with an 800 lb. jet ski in the back. Towing boats up to Vegas I get 16, towing the camper up the mountain and get 17. Best advice I can give on getting good mpg's is stay out of boost and stay under 2K rpms. Take off easy at stop lights or signs and let out of it alot sooner when your coming to one. Just doing that you will see an improvemont in mpg's.

bamboo Tue, November 3rd, 2009 12:37 AM

Well Im getting like 14.5 mpg:shrug:

One problem is the new set of tunes I got are really touchy, Driveability has gone down so I cant control the throttle nearly as much as I'd like to But all in due time
I'm hoping it can be smoothed out with tuning, I sometimes wonder if my pedal is messed up or something..

What kine gears you have?

cleatus12r Tue, November 3rd, 2009 05:17 AM

Bamboo,

Bill usually writes programs that feel fairly "stockish" down low.

Have you tried adjusting the idle validation switch detent?

Try this.....

Push the accelerator pedal down very slightly and slowly with your hand until you hear an audible click. (BTW, this only works for old body style trucks). If you have to push the pedal down more than 1/8" or so before you hear the click, you need to "adjust" the switch detent plate. This immensely helps the drivability of the '95 to '97 trucks.....especially while "chipped".

ChuckD Tue, November 3rd, 2009 10:59 AM

I got 3.73's. Cody I am going to do that today on mine. Thanks for the tip.

88Racing Tue, November 3rd, 2009 12:18 PM

So Cody
Which way do you adjust the plate? More or less than an 1/8?

Just wondering?
Lars:shrug:

bamboo Tue, November 3rd, 2009 11:53 PM

Thanks Cody, Bill mentioned the stockish programs, I had him adjust it some because living on a bumpy road I could hardly keep it at a smooth RPM
so I'm not sure what he has tweaked that might be different, How driveable are your trucks with chips +mods ? When the turbo lights do you really have to be careful where your foot is on the pedal? (how far down)

will check out the switch in the morning

Chuck, Where did you get 373's and how much $-$

ChuckD Tue, November 3rd, 2009 11:55 PM

Stock

Where is this switch detent plate located?

ChuckD Wed, November 4th, 2009 02:16 AM

If you look at the top of your pedal you will see 2 wire connectors. The top one at the spring is the TPS the lower one is the one he is talking about. You will see a little plate come off to the drivers side and behind it is a button. You adjust it by persuasion.

Wollffy Wed, November 4th, 2009 09:02 AM

ok, thanks i will have a look at that now...

soutthpaw Wed, November 4th, 2009 10:25 PM

I just removed my chip... Fueled up today and decided I would try and get a baseline Stock MPG.... will take a week or two till I fuel up again. my Excursion had a superchip gold in it when I bought it so I have never ran a full tank stock till now... Ill let ya know what the result is

ChuckD Mon, November 16th, 2009 12:54 AM

I have to retract my statement on my gears. I had my Explorer on my mind when I said 3.73's. I have 3.55's in my truck, sorry for the misinformation.

bamboo Tue, November 17th, 2009 11:20 PM

Haha, Thanks Chuck!

And I Was telling people they came stock with 3.73s.. Would be nice though

ChuckD Wed, November 18th, 2009 12:09 AM

You could have ordered with them with some haggle. I know a guy here that has owned his since new and it has 3.73's and he told the dealer either it came with them or no deal. His is a gasser so I am not sure if that made any difference.

Aggiefishing Sun, May 6th, 2012 10:43 PM

Instead of making a new thread i thought i would try this first since its fuel mileage. If i have the cruise control set on 65 what tune would give the best fuel mileage? it is relatively flat ground maybe rise and drop 100 feet.
