Injectors

I decided to start a new post because it sounds like Im going to fork out money :sigh: and I want to be 100% sure.

My truck is a 99.5 7.3 with 230000 miles Php tuning 6 chip
Currently theres no turbo on or fuel bowl and injectors are coming out today.
Questions.
Bill told me to go to single shot for fuel economy and Power. Will only the AE code single shot work. (what codes are compatible)

Should I look for a stage 1? (more knozzle flow) or will those injectors make me loose fuel economy?

Will something like this work? HERE

First off, I don't have any personal experience with diesel care/performance, but a lot of people have been burned with sub-par quality.

Your best bet is to have a set of flow-matched remanufactured injectors from someone like Jim Rose at Rosewood diesel DIY-Injectors.com or Dave Armstrong at Swamps diesel Swamp's Diesel Performance . You won't get higher quality anywhere and you won't have to worry a bit.

You will need new tunes written for single shots, but you won't be wondering whether or not you did the right thing afterward.

Stage 1s do not have a larger nozzle than stock. The nozzles are stock size but the injector volume is increased for more fuel delivery when needed. These are by far one of the better ways to go with a near-stock truck.

I just called swamps. They want 1500 because I want to trade my splits. Is it really worthe going to a single shot injector?

907DAVE Wed, May 5th, 2010 07:14 PM

Seems to be.

I enjoy mine ..........even though they are more like Stage 6.5 injectors.:evillol:

If for nothing else they are a more efficient injector and mileage should increase if you drive sensible.

I am with Cody on this one, Swamps seems to be the best in the biz when it comes to injectors.

Dave Rosewood will give me premium stage 1 conversion to single shot for 1385 (new plungers). Best price so far and fastest turn around time. Should I do it?

Im going to be running b100 biodiesel ok with stage ones?

New programs for 30 each. Do I need to get new ones written for the 1000 rpm warm up and the drive thru?nIs there a package dealto get all of them re written?

cleatus12r Wed, May 5th, 2010 07:40 PM

Actually all of your tunes will have to be rewritten to work with the different injectors....and custom tunes are $60 each. When running B100, certain maps need to be altered for that too.

907DAVE Wed, May 5th, 2010 07:42 PM

Damn Cody, you beat me to it. :hehe:

As long as they are flow matched......then yes.

Yup, that will even quiet her down a bit too.

You will need all new tunes for the switch to singles. As for pricing you will have to ask one of the fellas at PHP.

See Blue.

epowers777 Wed, May 5th, 2010 07:47 PM

MMMM bill told me 30 each if there 60 then Im just going to stick with splits.

ChuckD Thu, May 6th, 2010 01:58 AM

Bill does use PHP stuff so he might be cutting you a deal since your getting injectors from him. With that said the AE is a split shot if you are wanting something that is a "factory" single shot that is bigger is an AC with is a 160 cc injector.

Maybe $30 in addition to the ones you already purchased. If that's the case, then yes, they will be $30 each.

Ok I got the first injector out. the seals look fine. They got a slight discoloration. Nothing like I have seen online. :sigh: still cant decide if I should get new injectors. howlong would it take to discolor seals?

It's been A DAY....and it's the weekend!!!

epowers777 Tue, May 11th, 2010 03:59 AM

There on there way!! Just shipped off today. How to I go by getting nre tunes? Is the office up?
ALso can I gat my pcm flashed to a stock single shot program incase I pull the chip off?

cleatus12r Tue, May 11th, 2010 08:20 AM

Yes, you can get your PCM flashed to work with the new injectors. The PHP office is up and running again. If you go here: http://www.gopowerhungry.com/order_f...20Signable.pdf , you can get a return authorization number and just send the chip back. The tunes will be $30 a piece.

epowers777 Tue, May 11th, 2010 04:01 PM

How much to flash Pcm I did not see that on the paper?

cleatus12r Tue, May 11th, 2010 04:13 PM

Oops. Sorry about that. $125 for a PCM reflash.

epowers777 Fri, May 14th, 2010 03:49 AM

If I get my pcm reflashed to run single injectors would it be just a pre 99 tune?

hayjayhorses Thu, May 20th, 2010 03:36 AM

you'll like the singles, I love mine:thumbs up yellow:

Without searching to see any details of your truck (could you please put some info in your details under UserCP?).....
If it's an E99 truck then yes, you will have to have an E99 tune reflashed to the PCM to run the single shot injectors.

epowers777 Thu, May 20th, 2010 03:37 PM

This is why I asked. Can I get my pcm flashed to a older stock single shot tune then instead of paying 30 a tune can Bill just give me the 98 tune list for my chip? Or do I still have to have custom tunes?

cleatus12r Thu, May 20th, 2010 03:54 PM

Oh. Now I see what you mean.

No, unfortunately, the binary code addressing is completely different as is the hardware used in the PCM to function off of the binary.

Dang Ford engineers always keeping us on our toes.....

epowers777 Thu, May 20th, 2010 04:07 PM

:cheesy smile: it was worthe a try.

epowers777 Tue, May 25th, 2010 03:56 AM

Cletus I filled out that form you sent me and I sent it to coreys e mail was that the correct thing to do. This is for the custom tunes. My injectors are leaving rosewood tomorrow.

epowers777 Tue, May 25th, 2010 08:25 PM

cleatus12r Wed, May 26th, 2010 08:22 PM

epowers777 Fri, June 11th, 2010 06:03 AM

Hi My truck is almost ready to go! I have too many projects going on. I was wondering if my truck would start with stock tuning and my single shot injectors. I dont want to crank it a hundred times to find out it wont start without the proper tunes. I thought i read that hayjay drove it with the stock tunes for awhile it just idles ruff?

I filled the hpop pump up with oil primed the motor and now charging the battery any secrets on starting it quickly without cranking 4 ever?
Again Thanks in advance.:)

907DAVE Fri, June 11th, 2010 12:06 PM

Yes it will run without proper tuning, just dont expect it to run well.

Best way I have found for a fast start after injector swap is to fill the reservoir, and the heads from the front ports. This means you will need to remove the ICP sensor and the plug from the pass side head and fill them with oil. Reinstall the plug and ICP sensor, and with all the glow plugs out and the covers back on, crank the engine over a few times to clear the cylinders. Put her all back together and let her rip.

Should fire almost instantly.:D

cleatus12r Fri, June 11th, 2010 12:16 PM

Like you'd have any experience with that, Dave........

:cheesy smile:

Eric,

We haven't forgotten about you, it's just that writing the custom tunes for your injectors takes time....and that's something that Bill takes care of.

epowers777 Fri, June 11th, 2010 02:11 PM

Thanks for the help. I already purged the cylinders! I will fill the channels with oil then fire her up.
Thanks for letting me know letting me know cletus. I read that it takes time and just saw.the eta on my invoice!

epowers777 Fri, June 11th, 2010 07:04 PM

I got it started this morning. Ur right it sound like its got a lopey cam! Is it ok to drive back and forth to work? It's 38 miles one way and is it ok to have my chip in on 80hp Eco? Or do I need to pull the chip Andrew just the computer?

Ps on my cell!

907DAVE Fri, June 11th, 2010 07:39 PM

I drove mine for a few weeks with my 300/200% hybrids on the stock programming. It was awefull! If you can put up with it I dont think there would be much harm, just try to be easy on her.

epowers777 Fri, June 11th, 2010 07:48 PM

Thank you Dave. I will pull my fu chip out and run it on stock tunes. My wife needs the car! by the way its amazing how fast the rpms climb when reving it up.

hayjayhorses Sat, June 12th, 2010 10:39 PM

I have been running my '00 F550 about 12,000 miles with singles and stock tune It's annoying to everyone else but it doesn't bother me.

I have let it idle for 4-5 hours a few time while sleeping with the air on and it seems OK.
