Cody's 2000 F250 build.
Here are a few pictures of my new toy that I picked up last night. It was a bit dark when I got home, so pics had to wait until this morning.

Whatcha got in store for her?
|
Hey now, that's not the same one as before.......
Has the plan changed?:D |
The other people decided to look for the title as I pulled into their driveway (after driving 90 miles with trailer in tow). They couldn't find the title and I wasn't going to wait for 2 months for them to get a duplicate. Besides, it really wasn't what I wanted anyway. It had an injector taking a dump (miss while cold) and needed some steering parts.
This one ROCKS!! Runs like a champ, needs a rear pinion seal and a driver's seat recliner mechanism only. Besides, I stole it's tuning "cherry" yesterday. It has NEVER had any aftermarket tuning on it. |
NIIIIIICE!
Still planning on doing the body/ frame swap, or just fixing this one up? |
I haven't decided yet.
This one isn't as wrecked as I had wanted.... |
I say bob the back, and bag and link it......:evillol:
|
NO dont do that to a nice rig if anything level it up shove some 35s with 18s exhaust and call it done then move into the motor
|
Looks like a fun project I would love to find a cheap STD cab to build!
|
Quote:
I know where you can get some cheap STDs......:skeptic: Wait, that wasn't nice. |

Have fun with it buddy! - Jack |

thats nice cody..:D...looks just like my work truck.
|
Cool!:thumbs up yellow:
Wheres the one you promised me?:hehe: I like it especially because of the Bone Daddy sticker on the back window!:thumbs up yellow: |
Really clean truck, Cody. Now I know what you'll be spending all your money on. LOL
|
Awesome Cody, I'm anxious to see what you do with it. Have fun!
|
Looks like a good project, not a bad truck at all. Can't wait to see future post has you go. Throw in some pics
|
Free mods!
I have to get an SD card for my digital camera (since I can't find the proprietary USB cable) to get pictures of my latest modification. I know a guy with two pickup boxes full of stock exhaust systems off of Ford trucks; new exhaust by the way since the Ford dealer was also an SVT dealer....... I grabbed a brand new side-exit, before-rear-tire exhaust from a Lightning and grafted it onto the truck. Looks dang slick. I'll have pictures one of these days! |
Update time.
I have had the exhaust installed for a while (putting a muffler on it one of these days though :twitch: ) and just lowered the rear end by 2 inches. Before: http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/108_0499.jpg After: http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/100_0280.jpg Before: http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/108_0497.jpg After: http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/100_0281.jpg Now it's time for some different tires and wheels. 265/75-16 tires are not cool on a 2wd. I want to find some newer SuperDuty 20" Harley wheels like this to put on the truck: http://media.dealerfusion.com/images...2-4237P__G.jpg And put some 285 or 295/40-20 tires on them. |
Looks great!
Did you just pull the blocks out? Those rims are very nice, and seem to be an easy find. What do you plan to do to get correct backspacing? |
Quote:
No blocks on the 2wd trucks. I pulled out the thick-*** bottom leaf on each side (1 inch there) as well as out one of the main springs on each side. There are 4 mains stock...now there are 3. New U-bolts and new center bolts. $48 in parts and 1.5 hours worth of time are worth every penny. Rides a good bit better too. I will get wheel spacers for the newer wheels. Even the stock ones are sucked in a bit more than I like, so 2" spacers with the 20x8 wheels will get me where I want to be. |
That looks real good Cody
|
Thanks, CJ.
Since 1993, I have always had at least two trucks, one being a '73 F-100 2wd that I ran the wheels off of. It just always seemed to me that having a 4wd truck meant that I had to keep it in operable condition at all times (ulititarian vehicle). The 2wd has always just been a fun vehicle that was good for stress relief. I have since parked the '73 for a while....I just lost interest (sold the engine anyway and didn't want to waste any more time on a gasser). This truck is no different as it is fun and very easy to drive. However, I am bored with the power now. It's quick, but it's not as "WOW!" as it was the first time I drove it. Funny thing is, I never got bored with the power of the '73 and it made a whopping 235 HP with a stock-ish 460. This truck is heavier....and is likely in the 290-310 range right now. |
The truck has a muffler now. MUCH BETTER!

Ha ha. No. :D I just got sick of the obnoxious whistle all the time. It wasn't loud in the cab, but it was completely unbearable outside the truck......and I do leave it running any time I'm doing something in town. I'm pretty cognizant of the things I do and how they effect other people, and having a stupid-loud truck idling away at 1200 RPM in the grocery store parking lot just makes others  . |
Not to mention the sound it makes when the EBPV closes when its up on high idle.
|
Folks would be looking around for a crashing jet airplane
|
ehh who needs one of them muffler things anyway
|
I just bought a set of wheels. It's just too bad that I have to wait another 2.5 months until I go home to install them. I didn't really have the money for these, but for the price I wasn't going to let them get away. They're not the Harley wheels that I pictured above, but they are very similar and they are 20's. $200 for the set.......
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$(KGrHqMOKkE...VjU8w~~_35.JPG I found them on the local Bozeman, MT craigslist on Friday afternoon and had my friend pick them up after he got off work. Now I just have to come up with the $600 for 305/50 tires and $450 for the spacers. :matt-roloff: |
Those are sweet....exactly the one's I have wanted for my CC.
Tire's are pricey though.:censored1: |

Dyno runs done.....
Stock with stock tuning: 202 HP and 422 ft. lbs. Stage 2's and a VERY weak HPOP (2000 PSI :sigh: ) 385 HP and 859 ft. lbs. Now I have to spend more money to get my high pressure oil up to 3000 PSI under load. I should hit 400 HP pretty easily with that :D . |
Quote:
Good going Cody! I already want more power lol I just need more money haha |
Well Cody it ought to be a little more FUN to drive now. Who did you get the injectors from?
|
Full Force.
I've just spent a bit of time making a 183 HP over-stock daily driver program......and that's where the truck is "done". I will never use what I have now. The 385 HP number also was made sans ANY start of injection (SOI) timing changes from a stock single-shot truck. When it's hammer-down time, it is just like somebody threw another 7.3L under the hood. Good thing I drive it nice. |
Yep, good thing you drive it nice.
|
I had it on the dyno again yesterday.
1200+ degree EGTs don't agree with a ruptured HPO line that happens to blow 3000 PSI oil all over the turbine housing. Good thing it happened in the shop when we had fire extinguishers handy. :yikes2: I'm able to maintain 2850-2900 PSI and still make 375 HP. Torque is down though by 100 ft. lbs. That's cool with me though. |
Here is a recent picture.
Bill was generous enough to let me swap from my "Aero" front end which included the big headlights and chrome bumpers/grill to the "work truck" fascia. Chrome and white do not go together and I wanted to go for the all-white, monochromatic look anyway. His red truck now has some "bling". Thanks Bill!! Here's the beginning: http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/DSCN2443.jpg Bill also took his new 6.0L to the dragstrip on Friday night. I tagged along in mine and made 5 runs. That was my first experience EVER on a dragstrip (ignore the reaction time :cheesy smile: ) This was as fast as I think I'm going to get until I go with some aftermarket "oil". This run was at about 2.85 ms of injector PW ( ~2.0 ms actual) and my HPO was starting to suffer at 2700-2800 PSI. If I could get an additional millisecond out of it without tanking on pressure, it would be a fun (and faster) ride! My run is the LEFT LANE. The right lane was a newer (06 or so) Mustang that ran pretty strong. Also keep in mind that Bill and I both had MAJOR traction problems off the line. Wheel spin kept us from doing any kind of "boosted" launches so the 60' and E.T. really suffered. http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/DSCN2444.jpg |
That front end looks good on there Cody, good looking truck
|
Click on the picture for a video of my last (and fastest run). Notice the lack of black smoke. Smokeless 360-370 HP.

As for the looks, it's a good "20-footer"; it looks good from 20 feet away. :hehe: |

I hear ya boys them 20 footers are everywhere...lol

Nice run Cody!
Get that 60' down and your in the 13's easy. Are the "2's" just temporary, or is that what you are gonna stick with? |
Quote:
I drive it like a grandma anyhow. I don't see any need for more. |
I'm really impressed with the "smokeless" tune, that baby looks like it runs pretty good
|
Quote:
Instead of injecting .16cc of fuel over 67 degrees of crank rotation at 2800 RPM (arbitrary number), it's possible to get the same amount of fuel in 50 degrees. This gives the fuel more time to burn completely before the exhaust valve opens. I guess in the grand scheme of things though, that statement isn't entirely true. I only get about 2 milliseconds of actual "spray time" with my truck at the moment because my high pressure oil pump can't supply enough oil for more injector on-time (read: not really injecting the full capacity of fuel). The truck WILL smoke like a freight train (as evidenced in the first "all-out" dyno run I did with it) but it's horribly inefficient. |
When did y'all go to the track? We are thinking about coming down to run on a Friday night, be nice to get a few people together and go
|

With a stock truck that's used for working/towing...stick with stock size nozzles. The ones I have on my truck currently are 100% over stock (hafta see how the truck tows 13-15K lbs. when I get home). I have a feeling it's going to suck.
|
I betcha its gonna be good once the tuning is right....not saying it isnt already....but mine towed real nice once they were dialed in.
|
I'm not worried about the tuning. It's about dead-nuts now.
It's just the wonderful world of taking the reliability of a stock truck and modifying it...... You know what I'm talking about. |
That's why my single cab is staying stock.....I dont want to even open the hood unless its for an oil change.
And watching the gauges like a hawk is not much fun either. |
That's why my 95 is staying stock.
I purchased this 2000 to be a "toy" anyway. A toy with a gooseneck ball in the bed. |
Quote:
There are diesel drags on July 9th. |
Thanks Cody, so the single shot w/stock nozzles is what I should be looking for
|
That's what I recommend for everyone in your shoes, CJ.
On paper, the Stage 2 injectors 160/80 or 100% nozzles just aren't worth the trouble. You're either shooting for good numbers on stock high pressure oil (like the 160/0% injectors in Bill's red truck; 395 HP and still able to maintain 3000 PSI) for $1100 or you're looking at making more than 400 HP with the possibility of not needing an aftermarket high pressure pump (strong case for hybrids). Stage 2's are just kind of....well.... outdated. They're pretty oil hungry and they don't have the fuel capacity for an easy 400+ HP. |
Quote:
|
Do you recommend Hybrids then Cody. Really getting time I think for new injectors on the 7.3.
|
It all depends on what your goals are.
If you want above 400 HP, then yes. Keep in mind that your turbocharger, transmission (or clutch if it's a manual), and likely the high pressure oil pump will hate life if you plan on "using" that 400+ HP all of the time. The costs add up quick. If you want a truck that maintains stock-ish reliablity on stock parts with a nice boost in power above stock (up to 380 or so horsepower), then go with Stage 1's. |
Another bit of modification done....
I had some time on Friday afternoon so I did some bodywork to the dents and dings in the front bumper and painted it as well as the headlight bezels and grille. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate bodywork and painting? It's nice with the right equipment but it's still not my bag o' chips. Next up is the rear bumper. I have to weld up a hole that was previously used for a trailer plug and then reinstall a license plate light but there's no other damage that needs fixin'. The shade of white looks a little off at the moment but the truck is filthy and the paint will darken a little bit after a couple washes. Heck, the bugs stuck to it will get me there even faster. Trying to color-match paint that is 11 years old already is TOUGH. ON EDIT: I also included a post-bath photo....much better! Before bath. http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/DSCN2449.jpg After bath. http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/DSCN2450.jpg |
Man I got a thing for white trucks!
I would add a set of clear marker/ turn lenses.... they would looks sweet! |
Looks real good Cody, I agree with Dave I also like the white trucks
How hard is the exhaust on the rr wheel as far as soot? |
Quote:
The soot on the rear wheel should be reduced quite a bit now that I'm done pimping the power to my friends. :evillol: I never thought I'd like a white truck until 2005 when I got my first Super Duty. White is very easy to keep looking clean as I didn't realize how dirty the truck was until I ran the washcloth across the hood. Bright silver is the same way. I'll get the rear bumper fixed this evening sometime and get it sprayed by this upcoming weekend. GOS Performance in Livingston is having a dyno event (1st one for them) and I might drive over and see what else shows up. Actually, I take that back. I think I'll get annoyed there by all of the diesel punks smoking out traffic all weekend with their "Smarty'd" Cummins and 10K-modded OBS trucks. I may have my 20's on there by the end of the month too. Big Pimpin'! |

I've got a set from a 03..which were partially clear, they're yours if you want them. I also have a few nemo mirrors if you want them. I prefer the tow mirror, but the nemos would probably look better in that application.
|
Quote:
Thanks Jeremy, but I'll have to pass. I like the orange markers, they aren't so cliche. As for the mirrors, the truck has a gooseneck hitch in it and I use it, so the tow mirrors are staying! I can't stand not being able to see behind me. I appreciate the offer though! ;) |
I hear ya! I don't like the nemos...hence the reason i have a bunch of them. I just figured they'd shave a couple of 10th off the 1/4 mile time :cheesy smile:
She looks good! When you headed back to GA? I got another 7.3L(02) motor down here that could probably use a ride to Bills. |
Quote:
I don't know. I do know that I will be taking the car next time....it costs way to much to take a Powerstroke. |
Plus you can probably make it half the time with that hot rod.:D
|
Im diggin the exhaust exit.. looks clean lol. bet your wheels gettin all dirty tho? my bedside gets dirty from mine, i needa stop smokin so much, lol.
Im not a fan of white cuz my whole family has had nothin but white cars/trucks for YEARS, so my trucks red. lol i had to get away from the plain...:P |
Quote:
Oh, you mean my 91 Calais with the Iron Duke 2.5L and 240K miles? Yeah, it's a screamer alright. :smiley_roll1: Hey, it DOES have a racing stripe on the hood. Does that make it faster? It sure feels like it picked up a few HP. |
402 HP this weekend..... I hit that mark. I guess I'm happy now. :)
Just injectors. |

New pics.
I am officially done spending money on this pit for a while. I will paint the rear bumper as soon as the new plastic arrives for it..... http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/DSCN2467.jpg http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/DSCN2468.jpg http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/DSCN2478.jpg http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...r/DSCN2477.jpg |
Looks good Cody. Some 05-07 headlights could top it off.
|
Quote:
I try to keep from being too cliche. |
Very sweet truck, bud! You've got a real winner there.
|
Quote:
Couldn't have done it without you!:D |
That's a good looking ride there bud
You really made a nice truck out of it |
The only other things that bother me are the small dings along the lower edge of the right front fender and door and the missing paint along the bottom edge of the truck. The combination of the truck being driven on a dirt road and the de-icing methods used by South Dakota D.O.T. didn't do this truck any favors for the paint. I'll repaint it at some point with some racing stripes (likely the same color blue as the '95) but for now, it is what it is.
Other than that, this thread is done for the time being. Thanks for looking! |
Well, it was inevitable.
Push enough power through a stock transmission and it's going to start slipping. 3rd and 4th don't hold 400 HP anymore (obviously no problems while driving sanely). Looks like I'm running the daily driver program until I can't stand the thought of having a half-dead transmission lurking in the back of my mind. Such is life. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster. |
Dude, I'm sorry to hear that. How does that saying go?
"If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is..." At least you know it's not hard to yank the tranny on that. You can have it out in less than an hour. :D |
If it ain't one thing it's two
Good luck with the trans bud |
It was bound to happen. Basically putting in another 7.3L running in tandem with the original (doubling the power) isn't really transmission friendly.
A couple Benjamins for a kit and I'll be on my way again. I wonder if I should replace the flexplate while I'm there? :cheesy smile: I'll continue to drive it though. I would hate to walk as far as that transmission will still go with normal usage. When it starts having a problem in this power level, I'll yank it and re-clutch it. |
Hey Cody
That is exactly why Im afraid of cranking the power up:matt-roloff: I run an old superchips 60hp/115lftb program. I know there are much better programs out there now but my 30 ft 5th wheel wont drive itself to the campground...So call me paranoid:) Your "2 wheeler" looks great. Are you in GA or MT now? Tim |
Cody, are you using spacers with those wheels?
|
Quote:
Don't downplay your Superchips programmer a bit. Those programs were simple, safe, and they work great. I prefer those tunes over quite a few others that I've tried. I'm just an hour west of you right now. :cheesy smile: |
Quote:
I can't afford decent spacers right now and I'm not going cheap on something so important. The truck looks a little goofy from straight-on, but from the side, you'd never really know. I had to bend the steel lines a little off of the front calipers to keep the brake lines from rubbing on the tires. In addition, the radius arms inhibit full-lock turns due to the tires rubbing on them, but otherwise it drives great. |
Sweet truck man :thumbs up yellow: i hope to make that kind of power one day :D
