Question on changing Background/Digit Colours

Bill,
Would it be possible to have the background colour of the Gryphon/Evo Black, and be able to change the colour of the Digits showing instead? Or be able to change both the Background and digit colours?

I'm not sure if that is a whole new ballgame or not.

Bill

Actually, it is possible. However, it requires a different LCD module. I used to have one (the only one around) when we were testing different LCDs during initial development of the Evo, but it was decided to go with the standard LCD image of dark pixels over lighted background.

If there is enough interest, I may be willing to purchase a small quantity of negative image LCD displays and offer them as an option/upgrade.

If anyone is interested, let me know.

Bill

If the cost is reasonable, I would like this upgrade/option :2thumbs:

Bill, why was it decided in testing to go with the standard LCD image of dark pixels over lighted background? I'm just thinking the way my dash is, 2006 Lariat (black with green digits) would look sharper and match. Of course, I'm just basing this on what I can see it looking like in my head.

Wouldn't having colored digits over a black background make the display harder to read in bright sunlight (or when wearing dark glasses)? This is the case for me in my King Ranch. It gets VERY hard to see the info center under the conditions I just described, while even with bright sun on the Gryphon, the display is still visible.

I agree though, it would look nicer if it matched the dash display. :sigh:

Actually, I was impressed with just how clear the display was in bright sunlight. I didn't try it with my "Ray Bans" or "Foster Grants" though. :D

I think I'll order a couple displays and give them a spin to see how well they do.

I'll keep you updated on the results.

:woot: Sounds great.
If it doesn't work or looks terrible , just promise you'll forget who asked you to try it . BUT...if it looks great and works and it's not cost prohibited, I'll give you permission to use my name for bringing the question forward.....Bill:smiley_roll1:

I might also be interested in the neg. lcd. I have a black truck with black and grey interior. Let me know how the testing is going.

Is there a way to display MPG in the function digital desplay??

Bob

Power Hungry Sun, December 21st, 2008 12:08 PM

Go to [Menu]

Select [Setup]

Select [Display Settings]

Select [4 Function Digital]

Go the segment you would like to display the MPG in (Top Left, Bot. Right, etc.) and press [Enter].

Scroll down until you fin the MPG you desire (Instant or Average) and press [Enter].

Scroll down to [Set as Display] and press [Enter].

Press [Menu] until you return to the main display.

There you go. :D

Hi Bill, I didn't find a MPG in the list, lots of other stuff but no MPG.

Bob

Sorry I just found it, It is Avg Econ or inst Econ

I have FX4 gauges and have my gryphon LCD adjusted perfectly to match the little LCD temp display/odometer screen.........(I am a little anal and like things a certain way). I am happy with this and looks just right at night.
However you do make a good case that green digits on a black background would look very sharp!

We have to blame it all on our Canadian friends. The new "metric" options don't quite translate to MPG. They'd be something like KPL (Kilometers Per Liter).

Of course, KPL doesn't work with the good old English System.

So, we have to be "generic". Ah, progress DOES bring MANY challenges! :sniffle:

BTW, sometime in January, I hope to have all the manuals updated and posted on the website. I think I'll make them into stickies on the forum, too, so that they're easily accessible. Opinions? Anyone? Anyone? Dumb idea? Good idea? Waste of time?

(And I found a way to use the poop smiley! :hehe:

I think it's a good idea to have them in the forum too, Corey. I KNOW you're going through a lot of work to do them and I for one appreciate it a lot! I'm very unhappy with software and or hardware vendors that don't think it's important to maintain up to date information on their products. Good, clear instructions would solve so many problems, even if the instruction writing is not considered "sexy".

If you can stand it, I'll be happy to proofread them for you and give you feedback. I've personally found the BEST feedback comes from someone who is totally unfamiliar with the product (as I would be with the diesel programmers) and tries to make sense of what he is reading.

Corey,

I only have the Edge manual. Did you add any additional info in the Gryphon manual?

Actually, I'd like to have a Gryphon Manual anyways. How much?

Thanks,

John

Cool. Then I'll just down load it whenever you get it finished.

Thanks :break:

I wouldnt mind seeing what the new displays look like. Is it a simple swap that i could do myself?

I think, if Bill actually got the negative displays, you'd send in your unit to be modified.

- Jack

Power Hungry Wed, December 31st, 2008 08:16 PM

Yep... must come back for modification. The displays are soldered to the board.

I'm waiting to hear back from the manufacturer about US distributors that I can order from. As soon as I find some, I'll let you know. :D :2thumbs:
