Speed Calibration and Gryphon
Well I have been looking for a few threads both on here and on F150online.com for my tire size to lock in and have no luck. When I go to calibrate the gryphon to my tire size it will not hold it. I load previous settings and no luck it is stuck at 23XX and I need 2470 for my 35's. How to I make it lock and save in there? Thanks!

This has been talked about before on here. Try looking at this post and see if it helps you.....

BluByu, I think it's a bit more than this.
Desert Racer, forget the "Load Previous Settings" item for now - you seem to have no valid settings to reload. Go to Tire Size (TS) and enter your numbers. Make sure you hit <Enter> when done to save those settings. Go to Gear Ratio (GR) and make sure that value is correct also - hit <Enter> to save the correct value. Then, scroll to the "Done" menu item and hit <Enter> - you should see a prompt to turn the key OFF, then ON again. When the PCM programming is complete, those settings will be saved and when you "Load Previous Settings" in the future, you should not see the 23XX value for TS anymore. DO NOT hit the <Menu> key diring this process, or you will discard your changes! Let me know how this works out - PLEASE! - Jack |
I do exactly that yet when I am driving my gps shows I am off my 5mph going under 40mph and off 9mph cruisng at 75mph. :cursin: I have been messing with this for a week and tried it on each level and than did not go back to it and still not a thing is happening. I am very happy with the tuner and can not wait until i get my custom tunes! :woot: So how do I make it stick and work for the tire size? :help:

Can you give me the tire size a little more exactly than 35's? And, I have to say if you are seeing 23xx for tire size when you check it in the Custom Options, that sounds like you did not "Load Previous Settings" BEFORE you went to Tire Size. The 23xx sounds just like the "bogus" value I get when previous settings are not used. - Jack |
I tired just to go up 10 the tire siaze and not a difference was made at all. Speedo is reading slower by 5mph and well the gryphon reads the same as the speedo. My gps is pretty dead on had a buddy get next to me and my gps matched his speedo. Would like it from the dash as well to have it on the gryphon be a waste as I have a gps to also tell me how fast I am going. Tires are 315/70/17. I have tried loading previous settings and the 23XX number is still the same. no matter what i do does not seem to affect anything at all. Try to kick the idle down a lil nada.

Opps yeah got the numbers backward when typing. Took 7% off an got 2741.83. So still 2741, now just to mkae the gryphon stick to this and i will be happy.

Almost sounds like the gryphon doesn't want to take the new inputted values?
Have you updated it with pegasus? To make sure the firm ware is up to date? Maybe a glich? Maybe a job for Super Bill! Lars |
Well then I was no help:whistle1: Like Lars said it might just be a job for Bill now.
|
Whatever I do to the gryphon it does not hold whatever i put into it. Tried lowering the speed limiter and well that did not work. So this update thing? how do I go about this that you speak of Lars? Thanks guys for all the help so far.:2thumbs:

First, make sure you are running the latest version of Pegasus. Mine is V2.01.0127 and it's up to date. If yours is any earlier, it's definitely out of date. If out of date, use the Pegasus Update Manager to get the latest version. DO NOT try to update a Gryphon with an old version of Pegasus! Next, set your tune back to Level 0 on your truck and remove the Gryphon. Bring it to your PC and start Pegasus, then, plug the Gryphon in to a USB port. The Gryphon screen should light up (I think mine becomes red?) and you should see your unit's Serial Number (S/N) on the status line in Pegasus. Click on Updates->Gryphon Update Manager. If there is a firmware update, go ahead and install it. DO NOT install a calibration update. That will wipe out your custom tunes. Now, once everything is finished, go back to your truck, turn the key ON and plug the Gryphon back in. You should be able to reprogram your truck to the desired level now. I calculated an unloaded circumference of 2741 for your tires - what you calculated. Using 7% rubber squish (which is close to 3% total squish), I get 2644 as the figure you should enter. This is MUCH larger than the value you were using. Try it. Remember to hit <Enter> to save the new value and then scroll to <Done> to start the programming. If this still doesn't work, something IS wrong with your unit and Bill will have to be the one to help you. - Jack |
Forgot to mention I changed the factory computer tire size to 275/70/17 would that make a difference? I put on a 265/60/18 and my speedo is off by 2 under 65 and off by 5 above 65mph.

Next, what do you mean when you say you "changed the factory computer tire size"? The ONLY thing you can put into the Gryphon is the tire circumference - in millimeters. And last, you didn't really just swap ONE tire did you? :yikes2: Because, when you say "I put on a 265/60/18 and....", that's what it sounds like! - Jack |
Sorry lol. I took my 35's off and am using a 265/60/18 tire right now on all 4 corners. Before I got the gryphon I put in a tire size of 275/70/18 as my brother works at a dealership and had access to use it to correct my speedo. That is when I had a set of tires that were 285/70/18. Should that make a difference or no? Thinking it shouldn't as well whatever you enter into the gryphon is what the new tire size is into the computer. Sorry for the confusion using my phone so kinda limited on message space.
|
No, what your brother put into the PCM should not have any effect if you correct it using the Gryphon.
So OK, now you have much smaller tires on all axles. I see them as having an unloaded diameter of about 30.5 inches. With no squish, the circumference is 2434mm. With a 7% rubber squish (what I'd start with), the value you should enter for Tire Size is 2364mm. Remember to hit <Enter> after you do that, then scroll to "Done" and hit <Enter> again to start programming. - Jack |
Thanks Jack i will try that in the morning and see how she works out. Everything else seems to be working fine.:thumbs up yellow:
|
Seem to be the trick Jack. Thanks! :woot:
Side note roughly how long is the wait for the custom tunes? |
I am not sure on the wait time for custom tunes anymore. Corey has posted 5-6 weeks. It might be more like 8. Just be patient and if it gets around the 2 months or more pm or email Bill/Corey and they should get back to you

I am back at it again with this lol. I installed my 315/70/17 back on and well I have the gryphon at 2880 for tire size. Yet the speedo is off by 4mph again. So what size should I try? I played with it for 30 mins last night and nothing seem to change. I am using my gps to calculate my actual speed. That and when I have it set on 65 cruise control people in the slow lane are passing me. So I do believe the gps is accuarte and the speedo is off still. Any help?

Your Tire Size (TS) is way too large! I'm surprised it's only 4 mph off. A larger circumference makes the PCM think you are moving faster than you really are.
Bill has this neat "Gear Ratio Calculator" in Pegasus that I use for TS. All you have to do is put "315/70-17" (notice the dash in front of 17) into the Old Tire Size box. You will immediately see 2672 mm in the Old Circumference box. Notice the "Squish" bax has a "5" in it. The circumference is being adjusted for a 5% "rubber squish" (what Ford uses). I get better results with 7%, so if you change the "5" to "7", you'll see 2644 mm. Try either of these values, and adjust as necessary. - Jack |
Jack, I am retarded  I guess Bill set it up for me and when i went to change the tire size it was 2673 and what do you know? it is spot on :smiley_roll1: Thank you for the help!:2thumbs:
