My DYNO results are in.
well i ran my truck on the dyno Saturday and......
I guess i am pleased with the results but not were i wanted to be. first my truck is a 2001 F-350 7.3L with a DIY air filter and 4" turbo back exhaust. I have a Phoenix chip and ran it in stock, 100HP and 140HP settings. first was stock setting @ 227.01HP and 449.9torque second was the 100HP setting @ 290.68HP and 585.93 Torque and last was the 140HP setting @ 307.02HP and 607.74 Torque I really wanted to see 350Hp and 700 torque so i guess i will have to go to the hard $$$$$ parts. any suggestions on what to do first injectors, turbo then oil pump???? this is still my daily driver so i dont want to go to extremes nor do i really have the $$$$$ to do much at all right now. |

You are right about where you should be for the modifications you have. It's still pretty dang quick, huh? A good set of hybrid injectors (Swamps) and a Garrett ball bearing turbo will have you at 350-375 in a couple hours. I certainly wouldn't go for any more than that on a stock bottom end. The chances of you having powdered metal connecting rods are very good. At power levels above 350, you're playing with fire. Of course, you'd have to have your chip reburned as well....but Bill can get you some GREAT hybrid tunes! Good luck. |
I agree with Cody, you are looking at about $4000+ for an extra 43 or so HP. the cost of HP upgrades increases exponentially relative to the amount of gain you get. Personally if I had $4000 sitting around I would be buying stocks or paing down my truck loan. That's almost half what I paid for the truck :giggle:
Though I would love to have both of those mods too.. If doing one I would go with the injectors and a HPOP upgrade then you can shorten pulse width and up the pressure and get better atomization and even improve fuel economy as well as more power so there is benefits on both ends of the economy vs performance spectrum. at least that s my understanding Thanks for posting the dyno results though, we have almost identical setups so it gives me a good reference... The emmisions test here does it at 30, 40 and 50mph and my recent test with the 60 hp superchip gave a best of 244hp. which is probably not peak but a good reference point |
Good grief! I'm seeing something in the range of a 20-30% increase (without actually doing any calculations)! Do you really want to take this hunk of iron and try to subject it to more without having it specially made? There IS a limit, you know, to the stresses you can put on a collection of mechanical parts that were manufactured for the "masses".

Just remember the numbers are at the wheel and not at the block.
I am with DJ, if it's going to cost another $4k to get it any better then settle any debt and invest. Lars |
Yea, By no means do I have $4000 just sitting around to burn. There are a lot of thing that would go to first. Ya never know I may hit the lotto soon :smiley_roll1: Thats right you have to pay to play it first. Just wondering if I came across something what would be best to get. When I talked to Bill he said I did not have powder metal rods so thats a plus. If I can get a good scan of the print out I will post it. The power curve is so much better then stock. Stock has a bad drop off around 2600 rpms.
thanks guys |
There's no need to spend $4k for him to get to 350ish hp. While hybrids are nice they're not necessary either.
Stage 2B split shot upgrade from DPP $1080 or DIY your split shots for $685 from Rosewood. GTP38R turbo - I bet he can put a wtb ad on PSN and get a good used low mileage turbo for $1000-$1500 max. Cripe there was one on there last week for a grand and it even came with extra goodies! And in the even he needs a little more oil the Adrenaline hpop is only $469 That's about $2500 w/ the pump which he may not need and can always be added later. A regulated return fuel system would be a good idea too, DIY for about $250. The days of selling your kidneys to get more power out of a 7.3 are gone my friends. |
You should be very happy with those numbers.Add some big oil and It should put you up to around 350hp but its pricey for another 40 some hp.If it was me,I would get some small hybrids like swamps 200cc and that should net you 400hp but your gonna need a 38r turbo. You should also do a regulated return to make sure to fuel them injectors properly and the in tank mod will be nice along with.I think your stock fuel pump will be fine but a gsl392 is cheap and puts out some more fuel then the stocker if needed.

Most BONE stock sd's are in the 200 range, your intake and exahust are helping you there a bit. The 100 is spot on and the 140 is going to give the same results as the 120 without any extra oil(HPO). So everything looks pretty good. You should be proud for a fairly stock truck with little investment. A fuel systems upgrade and hpo upgrade will net little hp increase, but make for a much happier smother running truck. And also set the stage for furture upgrades. I have installed many sets of stg 2 single shot injectors in PMR engines. The key is to have good tunes;) And 4K can get you way more than 50hp, way more. |
if i went with an adrenaline hpop on my stock sticks would i see any gains?
