egt ?

Alright put the chip in tonight and I have stage 1 single shots and the 120 race tune. When I get on the skinny peddle it got hot quick. I saw 1200 and got out of it. Turned the chip back down to 65dd and egt's are fine. I got a 4" dp out of a wrecked truck and it had a few ding in it and I deleted the muffler. Would me getting a full 4" + exhaust help bring those temps down or is this just normal on the race tunes? I appreciate the advice just don't wanna waste money.

Anything you can do to improve flow will help lower EGT's. Some other things to check also would be exhaust leaks (pre-turbo) and boost leaks.

But.........

1200 deg. is not that hot, you can sustain 1200 all day long and not have a single issue. It can even get hotter without issues, as long as it not for a long time. So drag racing, pulling your buddy out of the ditch, giving that ricer a run for his money........dont even worry about EGT's.

Punched it tonight 80 hp economy up to 90 mph (came very quick) my egts hit almost 1500. As long as you dont hold it you should be fine. if your towing up a hill and holding 1300 or higher for a long period of time dont do it. Anyone correct me if im wrong.

Ok that brings me some peace of mind. The 65 dd tune is quicker then the juice w/ attitude was turned all the way up, but just never seen egts that high so was a bit worried. Thanks everyone.

So hitting 1300 is ok but not just a long period of time, cause i relocated my probe to the drivers side manny cause i put a mbrp kit on cause it was in the down pipe before. What is the highest it can go for a short burst?

1600-2000 for very short times.

No guarantees on how long your engine will live if you do that though.

Your results may vary.

ok thanks,so now i know

It is best to NEVER go above 1300 degrees EVER.

1200 all day long is ok according to Navistar, but 1300 for long periods of time isn't good.

Hmmmm i know i have no problem getting to 1300 on the 120 tune just going a WOT pull,So now im wondering how long its been getting hot while i had the probe in the down pipe.
