Phoenix Chip

I installed my Phoenix 6 position chip and its working great. My only question everytime I start the truck the "theft" light binks for 3.5 mins and then goes off. Doesn't seem to effect anything. Is this normal?

2001 Ford Excursion XLT

Normal.

Standard Phoenix calibrations for Excursions do not have the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) information written into the chip (and the PATS is effectively disabled in the tuning). We CAN implement the PATS information into the chip and keep it functional, but this would require you to send us the PCM to be read.

The "theft" light can be disabled by unplugging the green or red connector on the PATS module which is located above and to the right of the accelerator pedal assembly.

Question

I have two questions one is in regards to your answer about the PATS Anti Theft.

1. My Buddy who is a Diesel Mechanic just got a 6 position DP tuner and he has the same year Excursion as I and he doesn't have the problem with the "Theft Light" blinking and his PATS is intact, he didn't send in his PCM, he just ordered it from DP tuner. Why is that 6 position tuner working with the 2000 Ford Excursion and mine doesn't?

2. My next question is about the the tunes on my chip. I let my buddy drive my excursion to compare it to his tune and he said it just doesn't seem to shift right, seems to be very harsh when you give it 3 quarter exceleration just seems very hard and it seems to do it in both 80DD and 100HP settings. He has the same program but with DP and it doesn't act like that. I know the programs can be diffrent. but feels like the transmission is going to jump out of the truck when you get up and go.

The answer to number one is that it's a hardware difference between DP-Tuner's chip and the TS Performance chip that we at PHP use and the way the vehicle identification block in the PCM binary is handled. The hardware that DP-Tuner uses can ignore the VID in the tuning....the TS Performance chip cannot.

As far as the shifting is concerned, there should be little difference in the feel of the 65T and 80DD in your case. Which shifts are the ones that feel overly harsh?

Shifting problems

It seems to shift hard in the 80DD & 100HP, the 65T I really haven't used. It seems to be harsh when it shifts between 40-50 mph or if you step on the gas hard it seems to stack shift and they are very hard. This doesn't happen in Stock mode.

I'll give you an RMA number. Go ahead and fill out the RMA order form on our website. We'll change the shift pressures. A $7.50 shipping charge will apply. Just be sure to give us a detailed description of what's going on and when it happens.

RMA# is 30767

Just shows that some trucks respond a little differently to tunes.... mine shifts great with 80dd and 100pf.. but of course i have a different strategy..
